RAYMOND -> no, I'm using Maya since many years.

edub -> the statue doesn't have much detail, it's low poly modeling, just the bump map which give this details appearance...

...you can take a look to the mesh on this picture :

be interesting to know how many of these structures still exist?

Unfortunetely... all these world's fair are transitory... and for this one, not exists so much actually...

- the "petit palais",

- the 'Grand Palais",

- the Eiffel tower build for the previous World's Fair of Paris in 1889,

- and very few little buildings as you can see in this website (in french) http://pageperso.aol.fr/bottomcircle/Expo-1900.html

The "petit palais" and the "grand palais was situated just behing this monumental gate... it's really the first part of this World's Fair.

so are you just working off of these photo's???

if so the task looks rather daunting

i would go crazy without plans and dimensions.

i have wondered what some of classy buildings would look like

that burned down in the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.

like city hall.. that was just completed.

your models are quite WOW..

Great modeling as usual Laurent, how long is it going to take to finish this project ?

In fact... its' the major problem... I can work only during my short spare times... at least 3 years... to realize this World's Fair in totality...

...but in the case I must stop for any reasons... I've planed many big steps... this first step will be finish near the end of 2006... certainly... I've planed 2 pavilions each month... 23 pavilions to do in first...

...and for the rest... we will see...

man,, i cant say any word, u r ammazing.........

Thanks mate... ;-)

Thanks for sharing this. I'd like to look over your shoulder and see how you do this so quickly. Amazing!

I don't really think that my work is very fast... but in any case, I must try to respect my planning... keep "a pruduction" permit to keep the motivation. Thanks for your interest.

In fact, all the first Paris World's Fair was done all 11 years during a certain period : 1855 (12 years) - 1867 - 1878 - 1889 - 1900... and as you can imagine... each time, almost all was destructed to give place to the new buildings...

You must link your picture (hosted)... while inculdind the url between code as this example :

[ img ] htttp://url of your picture.jpg [ / img ]

I add space to disable the example...

you can use "url" at the place of "img" if you just want to give a clickable link.

That is quite impressive to say the least. You may have already answered this question in a previous post but is everything built to scale? or are you just looking off photographs and making educated guesses as to how tall or big things are? Either way it's incredible!

I trying ot model at scale... but with a majority of photos as refs... I try to have an idea of scale with the knowed environment, people, etc... and in my ancient books, I search all the size... I always try to be near of this ancient reality ;-)

Update now :

Addition of many details, especially thousands of electrics lights.

normal_wip_binet_019.jpg

ive been away for a while and havent seen this thread until now... amazing work!

The modelling is great and so is the texturing! I think (as someone else also mentioned) that the swedish pavilion doesnt look as good as the rest of them, but I think that has more to do with the design (very strange materials on that one!) than anything else....

3 years you say...? I would love to have that kind of patience and dicipline hehe... if you pull this off its gonna be one coolest 3d projects ive ever seen!

If you, when youre finished with all the different parts, combined them all into one huge scene and made a flythrough it would be awsome! but I guess that would require a pretty strong computer to say the least...

anyways...ill stop rambling now... but really great project man! good luck!

What I was hoping was that as you get the project closer to completion you can find a TV producer who will help get it finished and shown.

I know about the swedish Pavilion... that can of course appear very strange... I've planed to do more test about it... but a swedish friend of mine assure me that this aspect and color was used much in Sweden in the 1900'... I don't know, I'm not a specialist... bit it's sure that the blend of these original shapes and colors is surprising... as for the visitors at this time.

That will be a very long project... I can't be sure to be able to finish it... the more difficult is to keep the same motivation and the same interest along the project... I have much other possible project in my mind, for the futur... I must try to don't think so much to these ones... and always focus me on this one...

Thanks for the motivation with your words, I'm happy if there's people interesting by that...

Yes, it's maybe a possibility... and a possible final way... for the moment... it's again really the beginning, and I prefer to don't project so much my mind in this future... I prefer envisage that when the project will be very advanced...
