ShaunDon
Hey all. We've got a tiny lull in production, and seeing as how SP1 has been released we were thinking this was the perfect time to install Max 8. Can I hear from everyone on the board who's made the switch and whether or not you're having problems? I've seen a couple threads here and on Chaos saying people are still having issues, but I have no idea how wide spread they are. Thanks guys. Ricardo Eloy
Well, Shaun, I wouldn't bother upgrading just now. We have about 40 copies here at our ATC and we can't get to teach using it. It simply won't stay on, crashing every few minutes. Even with SP1. But then again, we use a lot of CS features, so maybe that's an isolated problem. ShaunDon
Ughh, thanks Rick. That testimonial alone sounds like reason enough. I can't believe there's such a significant difference in stability between 7 and 8. Appreciate the advice, Shaun
BrianKitts
not playing devils advocate if there's a chance of encountering problems still feel apprehensive.....but to give a good testimonial..... when our office switched over to 8 way before sp1 even came out we barely had any problems. In all honesty the only problems I encountered is that max8 doesn't like to resolve the xrefs of scenes and models made in 7. Other than that we didn't have any problems. Sawyer
I installed not too long after it came out. I haven't had any problems at least anything specific. I think it crashes like 10% more than 7.5 but max always crashes. I don't think it's worth the cash but most of us don't pay Autodesk with cash they own our souls. We pay in blood every year. Ricardo Eloy
I think it crashes like 10% more than 7.5 but max always crashes. For me, that's a good reason to stick with 7.5 (at least for now). R8 doesn't bring that many new features for us, and 7.5 is a lot more stable. I'm expecting a SP2 in the near future.
