Water surface as good as Raytraced?

I love the results from the water material included in Max in the Raytraced2 matierials library. However, the Raytraced material doesn't work in Vray... and I'm having a lot of trouble getting the same effect as pictured (scanline image)

I guess the Noise map is the key... but does anyone know how to get the same effect with a Vray material? Whatever i try doesn't have the same nice wave peaks or highlights -- just a low, rolly, unimpressive surface! (see other pic)

The Radiosity water has a Mix -- of Cellular and Noise -- for the bump, but when i use this Mix with Vray it still looks bad.

I'd really appreciate any help... i have a project on a waterfront so want to get something that can have water views!

Cheers,

Francis

Hi...

for realism and that kind of water effect, you should use noise on 2 slots.

1. Dispalcement slot

2. Bump slot.

you dont have to use the vRaymtl every time. just use a standered material

with a simple vray map on your reflection slot.

good luck!!!

... Herzog de Meuron, Zumthor, Diener + Diener, and tons of other great stuff!

Many thanks for the Ocean Water texture tip-off, Ray -- it looks much more like it!

Getting a bit better at the render, see this where the box is a 2-storey building (honest). The darker water is the vray one; lighter is scanline.

This water texture only uses one map on the Bump channel.

Any more comments very useful -- esp. for the material of the water, what are the black ridges from?

Thanks people
