Christopher Nichols
yeap... remember that Vray has spherical cameras that you can use.

Poll
Another question regarding the Panorama thing. Does anyone know how to make those quicktime interactive panorama's? (interactive as in, when you see for example a door, you click on it, and the next scene is behind the door). is it after-editing and stitching two panormas together, or is there a possibility to create those instantly? Tnx!

Tnx! You're talking about 'hotspots' in the VR movies. Check out this site: http://www.pano2qtvr.com/index.php There is a FREE version and a pay version. The free even has hotspot capability. I'm going to purchase the full version; as that offers the ability to make quicktime Object VR movies - where you rotate around a fixed object. The guy is very cool and has answered all my emails very promptly. The pay version is also really cheap in comparison to similar programs. I've been playing with the free version, and it's quite excellent.
BunGHoLe
For panoramas I use javascript program. Just render first an image twice as wide as high in Vray with spherical camera and than just type a little script in the program and it's ready. Type in google PTViewer...it's quite easy to set up and it's free. The good thing about it is that you don't need any player to view it...just internet explorer. jtiscareno
Jeff, Scott thanks for the answer, I already knew how to do one in max but not in vary, then got Chris answer but only had the spherical image but with the vr makers then it finally comes all together. Thanks!
jophus14
I have to create a Quicktime Panorama movie using Vray and I have a couple of questions. I will be using VIZ and I was wondering if I should just use the Panorama option in VIZ to create the movie? Is this a good option to use? Do I have to let each view of the render (all 6 views) calculate the IRR map & Lightcache individually? Thanks for your help.
Chad Warner
The method that Chris Nichols Mentioned (using the Vray sphere camera) works very well. Essentially, you render a spherical image (twice as wide as it is high) then load that image into the environment map slot, using spherical type, then render your QTVR file using the panorama option built into viz. MAGANGLO
Hello I'm trying to make QTVR from VRAY - although I've got panorama exporter working, I'd like to be able to make qtvr from a single spherical image. I rendered out using the VRAY dome camera with 360 deg view angle, however I cant figure out how to get the resulting image to a qtvr - I tried importing back into the panorama viewer and then exporting but it dos not look right - I also tried panorama exporter with the image as a spherical environment - still looks wrong. Any ideas - perhaps I need some qtvr authoring software?? any advice appreciated

The functionality is unmatched. The Flash integration is awesome. It also does ObjectVR. Thomas, the guy who developed the program, is first rate in his service. SandmanNinja
Hi, I have downloaded the default.zip and the cubicscrip.zip files, unzipped them, and installed it in my 3ds max program. It runs with no errors, however it just makes BLACK renders. I'm even able to successfully make a .MOV file - but it's just solid black. The computer runs a LOOOONG time, as if it's actually calculating something, but then the output is just black. 6 black files. I am new to v-ray and have just done my first interior (I posted a link to the forum). I would REALLY like to know how you use this program. Is there any way you could tell me what I might be doing wrong? Is there any way you could tell me the steps to make a .MOV panorama file from 3DS Max? I am using 3DS Max version 9 and V-Ray 1.5RC3 Thank you
SandmanNinja
After speaking to a number of people and just experimenting, here are the steps that I take to make a Spherical Panorama: How To Make a Spherical Panoramic with V-Ray ============================================ 01) load your finished room 02) put a Free Camera in the centre of the room 03) Hit F10 to bring up the Render dialog box 04) change the resolution/render size to 2:1 ratio (2000x1000, etc) 05) select the V-Ray Camera Roll-out under the Renderer tab 06) select SPHERICAL under camera type 07) select Override and type in 360 (to get a complete room) 08) render 09) at this point, I put the rendered image onto my webspace and show it off with javascript in an html file 10) you can put this rendered image an a spherical environment map and then use the normal camera in an empty set and then use the panorama exporter to make a quicktime vr movie out of it. And here is a link to my first (and only, so far) interior (there's nothing out the window - sorry): http://www.dhimaging.com.au/3D/pan-01/pan-01.html Thanks to everyone that helped me with info. I only rendered this at 800x400 (so I could quickly see how things were going with it - I am re-rendering it at a much higher res now) Thanks again everyone! prepulse
05) select the V-Ray Camera Roll-out under the Renderer tab Hello, I am new to the forum. I have been lurking, but this is my first post. I am also trying to make a spherical image out of a 3DS max file and have been unable to do so with this method (360 FoV). When I use the other method (6 pics N,S,W,E up and down) my light source looks all wrong where the pics meet. So here is my question. Why dont I see the V-Ray camera roll out under the Renderer tab? I have 3DS Max 9 32 bit and I just installed V-ray 1.5. Is there anything else I need to do? Settings? Or if anyone has another plug in suggestion to export a 360 FoV tif or jpg I am all ears. Thanks in advance, Trever Brolliar btw If it matters the Max file is a representation of a huge landscape
MAGANGLO
Hi If I remember correctly, I think that you have to use an actual VRAY camera and choose 360 FOV in the camera settings. I got some nice results by rendering out a 360 image and then using this as a spherical environment in max in order to render out a qtvr file using panorama exporter hope this helps

I appreciate any help I can get. Okay, I selected camera>Vray>physical then placed it into the scene. I can not find FOV in the settings or the Vray properties. any advice? leoviale
Well, vray camera settings works really nice to generate a 360º panorama using a standard camera, but what about using a vray physical camera?. I couldn't find a solution to this. Isn't there any solution for vray physical cameras to get a 360º image, just like using a standard one overriding FOV in vray camera settings? I know that i can simply drop down the vray sun mult for example and use a standard camera, but i'm looking for a solution with vray phys camera. Thx.
