Scott Baumberger
I've had better luck exporting via the 3ds format - it keeps the files size down.
eoghan
i bring them into illustrator and use a plug in that imports/exports them to scale, then bring them in as ai files to cinema. then extrude and model from there.

Frosty
dwf is proprietary autodesk. I dont think anything else will read it. If it is 2D geometry, try dxf as I suggested earlier. If it is 3D geometry 3DS may be more appropriate.
egidio
Hello! Sorry for changing subject, but I think this is a similar problem. I'm moddeling in rhino3d and exporting to 3ds to use it in cinema. Dxf works for me too, but its not so accurate than 3ds(missing polygons), but with 3ds I loose all my layers and groups. Is anyone found any better way for transfering mesh from rhino to c4d, without loosing layers and polygons?
STRAT
from rhino to c4d - i usually go via autocad first. from autocad to c4d - if its 3d then use .3DS all the way. if it's 2d then i wouldnt even bother.
gdrakakis
maybe you could try the Engineering Bundle. unfortunately, there is is no demo or trial available, but the info from Maxon looks quite promising. this is the link: http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d/engineering/engineering_e.html it's based on Okino Polytrans import filters to import numerous CAD file formats. ps: i'd love to have some feedback from anyone that has used this module. J.C
try 'PEDIT' and convert all linewrok to polylines then use the routine in this post http://discussion.autodesk.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1149493 to convert them to 3dpolys (there might be other routines out there), export to dxf. then just drop the dxf into c4d and all lines should be there as splines ready to be extruded and nicely grouped into groups according to your layers in acad just connect them as needed. works for me............. hope it helps, JC
