Wokka
A quick question with the new Sky object in 9.5. I want to create a physically correct animation of the sun and moon etc as we all rotate about the sun to show clients how passive solar design can help in Architecture. My problem is, if I apply a light as the sun in the sky object, it's intensity varies as if C4D is adjusting to the time of day on earth (which is fine for an earth view but I want a satellite view). This means I need the sky to basically remain as stars and a lightsource for the sun (appears) to rotate about the earth object. Is there a way to overide this setting as I want to show the difference between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Cheers
Ernest Burden III
I'm not able to get the full question in my brain. It must be full. But you should be able to animate day/month... Also, you can use a different light as a 'sun' though SKY will vary its output color even if you don;t want it to. Even though you described your task well, can you fill in more of how you see this working?
Wokka
Basically I'll be showing an near earth orbit animation over several points on earth with a few large 'structures' to represent a buildings. I'd like to show (say) the sun angle during Febuary down here in the South then swing up to the Northern Hemisphere to show how you crazy guys up North have Winter at this time of year (weird). I have tried using a different light in the sky object but as night falls in the South the light automatically reduces to zero intensity. Maybe I'm missing something here? I suppose all I really need is a sun (object-light) to move in correct reference to an earth object. Sorry if I'm not being clear.

You can assign a sun tag to a null object and the null will behave like a sun (without light, of course). You can animate that. Then you create a light as a child of that null and you control the light intensity as you wish. Hope this helps. Jorge Arango
Wokka
Thanks Jorge, I've tried that before but I thought it would be good to get the moon etc as well. I think I'll resort to your method though! Cheers
