FlytE
OK so coming from an architectural background I always worked and modelled in mm. When working with vray I was initially advised to work in metres. NOW after downloading tutorials on vray, i find alot of them are in cm. What are the best units to use and why? A I think it has more to do with personal preference than anything. I've always done all my work in millimeters, unless it is site work, which I do in meters simply to avoid working with really large numbers and most site plans are in meters anyway. rachelC
I was told that when calculating radiosity, the units needed to be in mm (in viz) in order to get the light right. Does this apply to vray as well or is it ok to work in whatever the units preferred? many thanks

BrianKitts
wow and most us americans problably think all of you metric people are nuts. Hows does inches sound to everyone??? I side with jeff.... work with whatever you're comfortable using... A unit is a unit as long as you use them properly it doesn't matter.

This is really funny I think, an American and Canadian, talking in metric. Would have never thought to hear of it. one question? is there a method in 3D's Max to change from inches to metric after a model has been modeled without adjusting the size of the model? and i am not talking about changing it in the unit setup, that changes the model size. I have kicked myself a couple of times before and ended up doing it twice. Just wondering
ahd
it's the way of work . and I think if your work is intrior you should work on cm. but if your work is exterior and landscaping so you should work on m.
neba77
And what about IES? I read somwhere that it it sensitive with system units.... What units are the right ones for it..... dunno....
Ismael
Since Vray uses the Max IES loader, you should just follow intructions for Max IES use. You have the International/American options for lighting units. Of course; assuming it is Vray for Viz/Max. Ismael
