salf
ANy of you guys have installed one of those FLash card media readers in their PC? I bought one, but i dont know much about PCs, so im not sure where does it goes...hehehe....... It only comes with 1 cable attached...so i guess it works both as a power cable and the data transfer, but the big question is where does it plugs. The cable is a small one, it ends in a flat box with 4 holes in it (horizontal aligned) so it must fit in a 4 pins slot. But i cant find it...hehehe....any ideas? The MOBO is this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130491 And the media reader isnt this one, but is some generic brand pretty much like this, only without the USB port: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820162610 thanks. BrianKitts
the cable is a standard usb header. outter two cables are your positive and negative for power and the two inside cables are the data of the usb cable. You probably have a header block on your mobo for an external usb hookup. For instance if your case has usb on the front of it, they may already be plugged in to this slot. Check your mobo manual to see if you have an internal hookup for usb. If not your other option would be to get a pci usb hub with an an internal usb port and get an adapter similar to the following. http://www.frontx.com/cpx505.html or you could go the cheap route of using the prementioned usb card... hook the adapter up to your cable, and then poke it out the back of your case and then right back in to one of the existing motherboard usb slots :-)
BrianKitts
sorry wrong link... you probably would need this adapter instead (sex change) http://www.frontx.com/cpx508.html
AJLynn
I think the USB headers are the cluster of 3 yellow 10-pin sockets in what would be the bottom front if the board were in a tower, but check that in your manual.

AJLynn
Not the USB port, the USB header which is on the motherboard - it's where the cable that goes from the motherboard to the USB ports plugs in. You really need to check on this in the manuals of the motherboard and the card reader, if you don't have the moherboard manual it should be on the MSI web site. Not knowing the specifics of either part, I don't want to give you any incorrect information.
salf
oh...ok...yeah i have the manual.......Ill look into it...but, using this USB header will left innactive my current front USB ports, right?..unless theres a spare USB header in there..... AJLynn
I think it has 3 headers, each supports 2 ports, so in theory you can have 4 front ports plus the card reader. I think.
salf
Thanks for all the help guys, Andrew, you were right, theres enough ports for the reader to be installed. ok, news update: I managed to installed but its doesnt works right, heres the thing, I know its installed properly because windows does recognize the reader as a whole new set of Hard Drives, so when you open the windows explorer or My PC, you can see now new drives, like Drive C, D, E, F and G.......each for each flash media slot, the problem is that when I put in my cameras memory, it doesnt shows on the computer, actually if the reader "reads" my camera memory windows loses connection with the reader, so it doesnt displays the drives. Dunno if a driver problem, or simply its a damaged product, any tips?
