alfienoakes
Hey ... I have used some Erco lights in my scene, first time.. and they look good. Renders no probs on my machine. but when I try and network render, the servers cannot find the *.ies map files..! I have copied them to a common network directory, added paths etc, copied them to the client machines.. and still the same message. Now I have set up hundreds of network renders, with multiple map files etc.. and as long as you tell the manager machine where they are, or copy all files required to each server machine, it works fine. But not with the erco ies files?? Has anyone any clues..? Cheers Andy
Aksel
hi andy, erco lights dont use any technology unusual to max, and that is photometric point lights and idroppable content. the idrop content including the ies-file is always put automatically into ...\3dsmax\downloads, so you might want to try and copy your files from there to another directory. to avoid that i keep my ies-data on a network drive and exchange the ies path in the light manually. you have to do that anyway, i.e. opening old project, reinstalled max, download-folder gone. hope that helps, aksel. JamesTaylor
maybe try mapping them using a UNC path rarther than just thro mapped drives
Tim Saunders
i've had a similar error, not with net rendering though. to fix my problem, i just made sure i hade the files named what i wanted them names and saved on the network where i wanted them saved, then in viz, i clicked the distribution button again and re assigned the newly named light file to the light. that fixed my problem, and i bet it would fix yours too. seems wierd, but you may have renamed or replaced your ies files after you assigned the data to a particular light. i still love your avatar! Crazy Homeless Guy
you avatar freaks me out. go to... File | Asset Tracking | scroll down to your Photometric file list, and check or specify the file path on the common network. hopefully that helps. ______________________- edit: this is what i would do if you were in max. ..it might be th same for viz. alfienoakes
OK.. Cheers guys for the help.. I went home and realised that the best course of action, was to put the files on a network drive, then try it.. still didn't work.. So, I went into each light, opened the light assembley, modifiy panel, then you can pick within the lights properties, where the IES file is..Probably what Tim was saying.. Anyhow.. all working like a dream now..! Cheers Andy PS - I am pleased my avatar is a good source of discussion..!
abicalho
The easiest solution is to enable the option that includes maps with network rendering - it will then zip all maps, IES files, etc, into a single package and will send it to the manager for rendering. alfienoakes
Cheers Alex, That is definately worth considering the next time I am panicing....! Andy
Devin Johnston
The easiest solution is to enable the option that includes maps with network rendering - it will then zip all maps, IES files, etc, into a single package and will send it to the manager for rendering. I do this with every network job I send out, that way I don't have to worry if all my maps and files are visible by the network or not.
alfienoakes
OK then.. Maybe upgrade "next time I am panicing" to "next time I do one"..! Cheers guys Andy
