Questions about the industry?

Not to sue if this belongs in the general forums but ill put it here anyway and see what happens, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

I am a 3rd year student studying computer animation. I would like to go into the visualisation side of the industry. I consider myself a competent modeller, I have been using max for years and I have been teaching myself vray as of late.

My final project I am doing at uni at the moment is a walkthrough of an interior and by the time it's finished I hope I will have enough decent material for a show reel.

So anyway I have been looking at jobs on the net and I have noticed allot (not all) ask for an architectural background, this is an asset that I don’t have.

I realise I will have to work from the bottom up but I just wondered if I even have a chance at getting a job in this field, do I have to have come from an architectural background or will I be ok?

Also I live in the UK and wondered what kind of salary I could expect to get for my first job, I would imagine it would be dependent on where I live?

Thanks in advance.

i wouldn't worry too much about the lack of arch experience but i would suggest trying to learn what ever you can, simple things such as standard heights of balastrades, door sizes etc but this also you can pick up thro experience.

I studied multimedia but had worked around architects a little before gaining my 1st position, i think if your portfolio shows the potential that you can do the job there should be no reason why people shouldn't be interested

your final project is ideal for using as your portfolio and the better it is obviously gives you a greater chance of securing your 1st job and will reflect the salary you could command. like you say i think salaries will vary a bit depending on wether your inside or outside of london although by how much i'm not sure.

maybe a figure around £15,000 is a sensible ballpark for a gradute position?
