Using Cinema 4D..is it possible to create a scene at home (still shot)

and send across the internet to render on a machine at my work?

I have a number of still shots to have finished for Monday and im just

wondering is the any way to render some at home and send some

to works machines also.

If so...how's it done?

Thanks in advance guys

I do this all the time with VPN. VPN allows me to access my network at the office and if you add Remote Desktop Connection on top of that, you can actually control your office PC from home. You see your office PC right on your screen at home. Pretty cool. This would take some setup at your office by your computer guys...and that part I don't know how to do since my computer guys did all of that.

Some things to check into though.

Cinema Net render will work over the internet.

BUT DOES IT WORK WITH STILLS OR JUST ANIMATED FRAMES...

CAN I SEND ONE STILL TO MY OFFICE PC AND RENDER ANOTHER

OUT ON MY HOME MACHINE SIMULTANEOUSLY?

HOW DIFFICULT IS IT ALSO TO SET UP.... ANY STEP BY STEP

GUIDANCE WOULD BE GREAT

Getting NR working is a task in itself, but it works by IP addresses, so you have to have a static IP to use it across the web. Also, the file transfers will be dog slow, but it will work.

Technically, NR only renders animation frames. But if you set frame 01 to be view 01, frame 02 to be view 02, etc., you can render stills on different machines. You use a Stage object to set the frames to different cameras, animating the camera setting with keyframes. I do this all the time.

So it is 100% possible, but getting it all set up may take some time and effort, so plan for that.

Both, a little effort and is required for stills. See Ernest's comment and also my tutorial for image slicing.

Yes. Again see Ernest's comments. The NR server equally distributes the work load to all available clients.

I found it very easy. Install and edit the ini text file on the server and all clients. Every machine will need a static IP and big band wirdth if the scenes are big.

I have used NR render on my personal render farm and network and also over the Net with a University computer lab. Both worked very well. Crashing was almost non-existant (as with all Maxon SW) and setup was quite easy. There are definate short comings to NR, but there are also tremendous benifites. Clients cannot be juggled on the fly and jobs cant be shifted to specific clients and it gets messy with GI and differing CPUs. But using NR means you dont need additional C4D licenses for each machine to render. NR comes in 3 sizes - 3 clients, 10 clients, Unlimited Clients.

Personally, I think the easiest solution for most people is to create seperate scene files for each Camera and render those on individual machines.

Choose your weapon and get to work!
