RyanSpaulding
Hey guys, Recently I've become interested in animation for arch projects, but we do not have the clientele that wishes for such work. I've decided to do one on my own and have been scouring the Finished Work forum for animations, but after the first few results, links to many user-posted animations have gone bad. Unfortunately, I've only found 4 so far. I'm trying to gather a good amount of links and movies for reference as to what works and what doesn't. Now this wont benefit many, but I can look at arch animations all day long. Do you guys have any ideas on where more are or can you point me to maybe some of your personal or firm's work? Maybe a link to a firm that has some online to view? Any help is appreciated! http://www.pacificommultimedia.com/movies/Demoreel_previewcomp.mov

John Dollus
You can also order DVD's from the Siggraph store. Many excellent architectural works are often included in the broader category dvd's. Don't forget to contact your local AutoDesk/Newtek/Softimage/C4D resellers. Most have industry-specific demo reels available.

JamesTaylor
there is another thread going at the minute about this, but it goes along the line of its not what you use, its how you use it!! images / animations can be created to very similar qualities irrelevent of what software / renderengine you use along as you know how to use the tools you have at your disposal

I'm just looking at making a jump to new software and am interested in the different looks achieved. I currently use Vue...so there's a lot of 'preciseness' (not a word..ha) that it lacks. I'm interested in the subject and am a good artist, so I'm confident I can do well with any of the software...I'm just interested in it right now. otacon
Pacificom is using Lightwave.
RyanSpaulding
Pacificom is using Lightwave. I seem to really like a lot of Lightwave renderings...now I know it's the person/firm, but it seems real rich in color. See, I buy Vue...but if you buy Lightwave, Vue is free...so it's cost-effectove for me. What DOESN'T Lightwave do well? Are there many major drawbacks? exception
We use lightwave, and have used for the past 6 years. the pro's of Lw are obvious, as you already are aware. Its render engine is gorgeous, great interface, modeling fantastic, etc, but you ask about drawbacks... Its speed is not something to smile about, which I think is its biggest drawback. It doesn't render very fast. You get what you pay for, in terms of time. What else? The core is not very accessible, but unless you're a plugin programmer that won't affect you, and they're working hard on it. It's not the greatest thing in terms of character animation. It has no IES file support, which is sad, and it has no snaps (although alleviated by LWCAD). Fprime is ... the most.. amazing thing... EVER!
