Clausbang
Hi I've seen a lot of great work lately from a number very talented "arch viz" people, but has started to wonder which company is "the best"? Great competitions like the one here at CGarchitect shows the best individual, but not company. I know that its a matter of personal preference etc., but if you make note of why you think they are the best (lighting, texturing, best project etc.). An interesting category could also be who is the most cutting edge, but I don't know how define it. /Claus
Jeff Mottle
Hey Claus, We should get an idea of some of the better studios from the competition as many of the team entries were studios, but I would hesistate to call them the best as not every studio submitted. Our judges (studios) I would consider to be some of the very best.
STRAT
i personally dont consider competitions to show us 'the best' there is. i mean, i might be the world's best marathon runner, but just because i dont enter myself in competitions and proove myself, how would you ever know? what about those thousands of cg archi artists out there who dont enter and might be 10 times better than the winner? i think this is true in all competitions, thats why i HATE calling someone the best just because they win a comp. i really do think it's a very unhealthy atmosphere to find oneself in when you look for the best. comps are great for finding and pointing out wonderfull artists, but labelling them 'the best'? i think not personally. to me, you guys are my friends and collegues, not my betters. Brian Cassil
The "best company"? Based on what criteria? Best quality work produced (which is completely subjective), best to work for, best service to their clients, or best in a dozen other things. It's impossible to say, or for anyone to even know. Also, there are a lot of companies who purposefully keep a low profile and therefore few have ever even heard of.
mbr
I agree. The competition is a super way to look at different approaches to the same problem, but I wouldn't say it qualifies the winner as the 'best'. Many studios are too busy and look at it as a low risk/reward, were as for an individual the prizes are pretty nice. It's all subjective, too. It's like saying 'who is the best rock band?'. You'll get many answers depending on who you ask. Also, some firms do wonderful jobs at specific things and don't focus on others. Other firms offer tons of services but dont' focus on one perfect rendering. But you can decided for yourself, of course. Look over this site, look at the firm links, etc., there is a lot of talent out there as well as tons of mediocre work - just like any creative profession. Brian Cassil
It's all subjective, too. It's like saying 'who is the best rock band?'. Actually, that one did become official, it's Pink Floyd.

skala67
Floyd!!! and i've got rendered images from my past to support that claim (and a bunch of ticket stubs ) i knew you guys were all ok... IC
The rock band is a good analogy. You just can't say with any justification who is the best. Because of course it would be Jimi Hendrix and he wasn't a band.

Sawyer
Definatly Floyd. But really this is an important question: Are we Strats betters? I don't know I don't know if we will ever know but I do know I never had a mullet.

Brian Cassil
Actually, having been more involved in the so-cal skate scene of the mid-late 80's I had more of a backwards mullet. I know you all remember it, short in the back, long in the front. Like Johnny from the Karate Kid.

skala67
All I have is a vision of an Arch visualization office with all the employees sitting at computers, stoned, listening to floyd and moving their mullets (forward or backward) to the music as they crank out the best work we've ever seen. hmmm...do i hear business plan? anyone interested? IC
I'm in. I've currently got the closest thing to a mullet I've ever had. My hairdresser assures me it's fashionable but I still double take in the mirror. Queen (pre-Flash of course) anybody?
STRAT
you see? they're all comming out of the woodwork now.
Clausbang
I know that its a matter of personal preference etc - and Queen gets a vote from me I'll try to rephrase my initial question. If you were an architect who wanted to have your "fantastic project" visualized. Who is the first choice? - And my priorities would be Visual quality of renderings then animations then service provided then price then... I'm not looking to find "the best", as I tried to suggest (see quote), but who would you recommend if it couldn't recommend yourself? I was also hoping to get some input towards what is "best practise" in this business. A lot of other industries are very aware about it, but it might be down to maturity of the industry /Claus
