skala67
Claus, you hit it on the head (but maybe a little skewed). the fact is, I think the industry realizes it is all in this together, and it may be mistaken for maturity level because although competitive, we do not compete against each other, at least in this forum. It is an industry that will take alot of work to grow and thrive so i think that is why your question was never answered. We are an industry that has not been fully realized for the service we provide, and if you read many of the trade mags, we are the last of the 3-d sector to have public appeal and acceptance. As i think Jeff said earlier, one way to see who the established firms are, take a look at who the judges are for the competitions here (1 & 2). This means that there is a certain respect for those firms. I think there is 4-5 of them this year. Their work will show you what to aspire too or what has been successful in the field. (it may also be because they all think Pink Floyd is the best too) cheers,
Brian Cassil
It really is an impossible question to answer. Try it this way, lets say you were a developer and you had this sweet piece of land and you were looking for the BEST architecture firm to design your project. How could anyone answer that question? Now if you are looking for firms/studios that will do great work, are responsible to get the job done on time, and coordinate everything well, I think some of us could give you a list of studios like that. However, I am not willing to hand pick a single studio that I think is the pinnacle of all visualization, nor do I think anyone else here will do that. Sawyer
Besides I think you have to have seen a band live to be able to judge them as the best. I have seen Pink, not stoned Beattles. I have seen Tom Waits live and he is the only show I have seen that I put up their with Pink Floyd. However I don't really listen to much Pink Floyd anymore I still listen to Tom Waits. AJLynn
"The best"? How can you have a "best" in a field where all evaluations are subjective? We have these contests here, but even then it's "out of the people who entered, whose submittal did these judges like the most" - not "who's the best". Even "who would you hire for your project" isn't something you can necessarily pin down, it depends a lot on what your project is, who your clients are, etc. I guess if I were running an architecture firm, didn't already have somebody I regularly worked with and needed visuals, there would be at least a dozen people/studios who are regulars on the forum who I would trust to do an amazing job - it would depend on the details and exactly what I wanted. skala67
I think this is just like: "how many licks does it take to get to the middle of a tootsie roll tootsie pop? The world may never know" What was turtle doing eating a lollipop anyways.

Ernest Burden III
hey, all peeps here over 28 had a mullet in thier early 20's, late teens. and if you think you didnt then your in denial. Alright then, my feet are wet, and where's the pyramids? I most certainly did not have a mullet at 20 or any age. Pink Floyd for best non-Beatles band. Queen? Sure, they're great. I saw them in a huge arena in Oklahoma City, a high point for us both, I'm sure. Best studio? So many good ones, so much great work coming out of schools where creativity is still allowed. Commercial client's often tell you 'don't do that' when you want to get all edgy on them. Last year I did a series of renderings for a new client. I have been asked to keep the pictures under wraps (pity, they were good, one in particular). At the start of the work the owner of this firm puts me on speakerphone in a meeting with his team and tells me how they've scoured the Internet looking at the work of renderers, and mine was simply the best out there. Wow. While I don't mind the compliment, I had to wonder just how hard he really looked. There is some great work. Lots of talent out there. So there is no 'best', though maybe 'best for this project' and that may, and should, vary.
Sawyer
So can we agree on this - U2 may or may not be a good band but they may be very large. None of us are Strats betters. All of us are Strats hairs betters. The Beattles got stoned but I never saw them so it didn't count. Mullets make it look like you like sex - drugs rock and or roll. Aside from that mullets should not be used as a valid form of public discourse. Focus360 and those Neoscape guys are really big. (now I mean tall they are all really tall). DennisHolland
U2 is cool, but there is a deeper explanation why Floyd is by far better. I'm talking about musical intelligence, a very wellthought and unique sound. Floyd opened up, broke boundaries and paved a brandnew road (highway) in Rock 'n roll history. Watched 'm at the Live8Live gig in London after not playing with eachother for almost 24 yrs, just a quick rehersal-set the day before the gig? That's right... Take it easy, Dennis
Brian Cassil
As far as the Beatles are concerned you have to identify what a "rock band" is. Personally, I don't think they qualify as such. In my book The Who was the first true rock band (and a darn fine one at that!).

IC
I love the Beatles but I agree: you can't really pigeonhole them as 'rock' or anything else. They were, arguably the best band but not the best rock band. I don't like U2 very much apart from the odd song. Or Pink Floyd. What does that mean? Intelligence in music. Is there a need for it? Discuss.......... (This is the most interesting thread here for ages apart from the nonsense people keep throwing in about 'rendering firms'.) IC
Internet research seem to be very contradictory but one thing that does seem to hold up is that The Beatles have sold roughly 500 million. Oh we've ruled them out haven't we. So U2 are the biggest-where does that leave us? Apart from the fact I'd go and see the Arctic Monkeys over U2 any day. I'd probably view my use of a firm in the same way. Who do I like just now rather than who's the biggest.
