Sawyer
I guess they made the right choice, then. And the Clash are the second-coming of the Beatles Then by default does that make The Pogues the 3rd coming of the Beatles or just the second coming of the Clash? Strat heres a Rock and Roll look for you...
skala67
The Pogues.... Ah, brings me back to simpler times with a skateboard and youthful rebellion (and that reverse mullet) That pic is great...some one needs to use that as their icon. I think floyd can be said a 5th time if you'd like, oh and Playboy this month put them into their Hall of Fame of bands. (only the 5th in that Hall I think) Hey, can 1 hugh hefner be wrong? I think when the world revolves around Bono, michael stipe is holding him up instead of a ladder, while someone constantly tears off his shirts 1 by 1 revealing a message that we prolly could live with or without... STRAT
the name 'pink floyd' originated from a couple of blues albums Syd had in his collection by Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

Ray
Pink Floyd is a much better name than Tea Set, or Architectural Abdabs (some of their earlier names.) Dark Side of the Moon - by Tea Set, nah, just doesn't ring.
RAYMOND
sounds familiar. even in the work place:D :D i thot the movie "The Wall" was all about how horrible everthing was and there was no solutions.. like life was just a cruel joke... nice music tho... i can hear it in my mind now... Ernest Burden III
Pink Floyd is a much better name than Tea Set, or Architectural Abdabs (some of their earlier names.) I painted the robot handshake image from Wish You Were here on my skateboard helmet. I wouldn't have done that if their name included 'architectural' in it. Of course, the skateboards themselves had the Cars, then Ramones, then The Clash and finally Elvis Costello painted on the bottom. Now, how else can we disrespect this thread? skala67
is it weird that the bottom of one of my boards had a grown man (soloman agar) dressed in a tutu and a fairy costume? of course I had Milo from the descendents drawn in silver marker on the grip tape. R.I.P. Ramones... Oh and the wall is a pseudo biography of Sid Barrett (first frontman), and pseudo auto-bio of Roger Waters, (the ego centric bass player)...with some kick ass animation. Sawyer
There was no more important movie form me in High School than the Wall (later The Fisher King). I just uploaded Pros & Cons of Hitchiking to my ipod. Waters in particluar paints these emotional landscapes and I just get sucked in. Love it. Even loved What God Wants. The wife finds this kind of music too depressing. But I love dark subject matter I am just horribly morbid. Actually this last x-mas I was teaching the 4 year old to sing along with Fairy Tale of New York. Although that may show I am just not a good father. Brian Cassil
Floyd's music was great but he himself was quite lost... sad to say.. "By the way, which one's Pink?" That's funny. i wonder how many peeps know why the name Pink Floyd? I actually did know that it was named after two blues artsist but I wouldn't have known thier last names (without googling) I'm sure most fans know this but "The Wall", "Wish You Were Here", and "Dark Side of the Moon" are all primarily inspired by the events of Syd Barrett's mental breakdown during the early days of Pink Floyd. In a way, it is the true story of Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll. Also, like most fans know, "the dark side of the moon" works as an alternative soundtrack to the Wizard of Oz. Hit play right as the lion roars. Sound effects and score fit perfectly with the action on screen all the way through. Some call it "Dark side of the Rainbow"

NO the wall was about the emotional barriors people create after being emotionally abused. Or at least thinking they were abused. Or not allowed to express their emotions. And a cautionary tale of not putting children in meat grinders or shipping them off in trains and never make children wear weird faceless masks that make them look like pigs. And proves the point that people really look wrong without eyebrows and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NEVER SHAVE YOUR NIPPLES OFF!!! And that animated flowers might look cool when the have sex but they also end up eating each other. And was the endind sincere or sacastic when the judge makes Pink tear down the wall? Was it redemption or punishment?

I let my son steal my Ramones, White Stripes Green Day and Beatles CDs. When I want some good music I just have to go search his room. We only have The Wall on vinyl, and it's actually my wife's record.
Sawyer
I got the girl into the White Stripes as well. She looks up to Meg now. Tried getting her in The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, hoping a little of Karen O would rub off onto her. She is still in the Disney Princess phase. I did have her requesting "Singapore" by Tom Waits as the bedtime song I sang her every night. That was when she was young though. Actually I hope Meg & Jack keep it up _ they are becoming one of my all time favorite bands as well.

Frosty
Ok I love Floyd too. I think I have about 14 albums and countless bootleg concerts. Only seen them once live tho - Pulse. I swear I was vibrating along the floor with the bass intro to Sorrow. But ifin I'm throwing my "the greatest rock band of all time" hat into the ring, its gotta be Led Zeppelin. Hammer of the Gods baby! No other band changed the way bands are treated by lables like Zep - U2 wouldnt have the deal they have now were it not for Zep. And like it or not, Stairway to Heaven is the single greatest rock song of all time. I'm also going to throw in a completely sidetracking vote for the Best Canadian Rock Band with The Tragically Hip
Brian Cassil
NO the wall was about the emotional barriors people create after being emotionally abused. Or at least thinking they were abused. By the way, here are some instruction and more info on the Dark Side of Oz. http://www.everwonder.com/david/wizardofoz/ See I had always assumed it was more about Waters with kind of hidding behind Syd's legacy. I don't really know why I thought it was Water except I thought it was him that had the dead father obsession and the connection to the war and that it was inpart his obsessions with playing out his childhood that pissed the band off so much. As well as not allowing the other band members into the recording of The Final Cut which as I understood it was another Waters driven project/obsession. But I really don't know that much about the band and about Syd except that he lost it.
4DM
I did have her requesting "Singapore" by Tom Waits as the bedtime song I sang her every night.. Hehe. My ten year old loves Jockey Full of Bourbon...as do I. Yep, asking who is the best at ArchViz is a bit like asking which is the best football team........ BTW, while we are at it, and as I am a bit out of touch nowadays, perhaps someone here could tell me which is the best football team? Cheers, D.
