cain
Hi guys, I was wondering if I can't use radiosity if I am using photometric lights? I have gone through the tutorials and radiosity works fine for my daylights and standard lights, but if I use it on the preset photometric lights I get a messed up rendering with triangles and dark objects. Also, if I use the daylight system in the scene, my photometric lights don't work. The scene I am rendering is a small lobby with very little windows. If any of you have any suggestions on how to light this scene I would really appreciate it.
a_w
Sure, you can use photometric lights with radiosity. The following comes from the Autodesk VIZ 2005 User Reference. It's about Radiosity Workflows: Physically Based Workflow Lights: Photometric Lights Daylight: IES Sun and IES Sky Exposure Control: Any Units: Make sure your scene is set to the appropriate scale. Non Physically Based Workflow Lights: Standard Lights Daylight: Directional Light and Skylight Exposure Control: Logarithmic − turn on Affect Indirect Only. Units: Make sure your scene is set to the appropriate scale. If you post an image of your scene, it may be easier to diagnose if it's a problem of scale, material, light and/or radiosity settings. Tim Saunders
In my experience photometric lights are about all I use with radiosity. Echoing the words in the previous post, show us a test render so we can see the problem. I'm guessing it is the physical scale in your exposure control perameters causing the problem. As a general rule, when using Log. exp. control (which I reccommend), set the physical scale to the same value as the brightest light in your scene. Then you can adjust the brightness & contrast in your exposure control perams. Radiosity can give some killer results, but it will take some testing, a lot of testing to figure out what adjustments effect what. Stick with it. cain
Thanks for your help guys but I looked over a mental ray tutorial over the week-end and it has worked out quite well for me. I think I will stick with mental ray from now on.
