MR forum, can it get any worse.

Hey,

I know Frances is a mod here, so I just wanted to say sorry for not taking a shot at Tom for his behavior with you. I'm kinda shocked that more people didn't complain about that situation. Tom was way out of line, even for NL.

Frances, you certainly handled yourself well, and you did it with class. I can't say that for Tom though.

Anyway, glad you fired back.

What happen? I must of missed that thread, or it got deleted before I could read it.

It's sad, but I think that M~R has became a cult. The people that follow it are just as fanatical and brainwashed as those people involved in those far out reliqious cults or get-rich-quick scams. You could read this: http://quixtarsucks.blogspot.com/2006/01/annoying-ibos.html#comments

and you would think that your at the M~R forum;)

The MWR forum could get worse, its still possible. Somehow.

I don't pay much attention to it, but I enjoy the people, even the fanatical, blinded by promises ones. There's one in particular who is a complete jerk, and I actually said he was being a jerk twice in one day last week. But I had proof. I wasn't going to cry over a banning, if it happened. And I would agree that a personal attach would be wrong. So I'm not exactly proud, but it was satisfying.

That forum exists on hope alone. There is nothing else to sustain it. Everyone is either huddled together clinging to a shared fantasy or just being there to still have someone to yell at, since they cannot accept losing. They must think there's a thread to still hang on, though.

Who knows. Certainly not me.

I think users who use Maxwell dont have anything to discuss since the software itself is too easy to use, no tricks, no secrets about lightning or shaders. Therefore, there're no challenge and seem like everybody's works look the same.

Thanks Stephen. :) I remember when I suggested voluntary content warnings - the way Tom reacted, you'd think I'd suggested a book-burning. Things have really come full circle over there. I also remember when Carmen posted to complain about Tom's 98495734958725 posts and he announced he was leaving the forum. I emailed him and asked him to reconsider. So you can blame me for him still being there, I guess.

To explain to anyone who was lucky enough to miss the spectacle: The situation was pretty ridiculous - I made a mistake in my post and my quote of him got in the wrong place. He interpreted it as some sort of subversive message on my part. Then he deleted his reply, my reply, and edited his quote out of my post. I discovered it when I went back to fix the post the way it was supposed to read. I added his quote back in along with a little tag saying I didn't appreciate him editing my posts. He fired back that he didn't appreciate "nonsense mistakes," which really made me mad. When I told him he was on a power trip, he got really ugly with me. I told him it was scary that he was the face of Next Limit's customer relations. Long story short, he got really really ugly and I got ugly too and I won't be going back to that forum. I'd rather take a bite out of a bag of poop.

I think I just made it worse. And I was trying to stick to KoolAde, too.

oh well, I liked that cornered furry little animals depiction (even though i thought we were more like big furry apes). but I guess it's way too dramatic, it's only a rendering engine's board after all.

Ok, I see now. But what do you expect from the person that wanted to make the forum VIP because people who didn't own the software "didn't have anything to contribute". If he meant money, yes. If he meant knowledge, he was dead wrong! So now the whole forum is closed off and all "professional" and then he runs around editing people's post and attacking them, then says it's ok because it's in the OT. If that's the case, why don't they make it open to everyone? And people DO judge a company by the actions of it's employees... on or off the clock. Just because a person clocks out it doesn't mean that they can go outside and start smashing people's cars up. Well, they can, but they would get fired (unless they worked at NL). This whole thing is starting to make me sick and we're only in second session. Fran, you've just been voted off the island.:D

fran just ignore tom - i mean a guy who thinks the massacre of one million armenians in 1915 is not true and the whole world has the wrong facts on this and because he lives in turkey he knows the truth...err

also his constantly calling forum users 'my friend' without knowing them. yuck! like the sleazy pimp selling his 14 year old hooker on clichy blv: 'pssst..my friend i got smth for you'

i hope we'll still see you on the maxwell forum

The equivanent of Tom for Maxon C4D would be Srek/Bjorn, who is an employee who posts frequesntly on CGtalk and even a few times here. He stick to the company line, never gives up secrets or hints on a board or by private email, but is always informative and respectful of the Maxon customers. Perhaps NL and Tom could study Maxon for some clues of how to behave.

Frances, it makes me sad if you're going to leave the forum beacuse of that discussion :( i always enjoyed your contributing comments, humor and knowledge on the forum and i still do. Please don't let the argument drive you away from there.

A forum without women on it is a dull boring place, and i'm sure the guys here agree with me on that one. :)

Thanks Magnus. The Maxwell board is just not what it used to be.

Generally speaking to all,

My position on NL could change from day to day based on the information I receive. That doesn't make me wishy-washy or two-faced. It makes me someone who is able to process new information and draw conclusions accordingly. One thing that will not change is my opinion that NL is definately incompetent when it comes to customer relations, and very possibly incompetent when it comes to bringing a software to a productive state.

I'm tired of getting my hopes up with each crumb of info NL deigns to drop from its table. I'm tired of Tom being able to make cryptic remarks and having the more impressionable members getting excited, the jaded ones making denigrating remarks, and the others, like me, feeling like no matter what we say, something sinister and NL-unfriendly will be read into it.

I'm tired of the warring factions and of people being categorized according to their satisfaction with Next Limit.

that's perfectly logical, I can't even imagine how that would make someone look two-faced or anything like that. it's a renderer we're talking about, nothing more nothing less.

if I were you I wouldn't mind about such idiotic remarks or those inexplicable personal feelings some people tend to surround maxwell and its board with. it's not really worth it.

You're welcome Frances :)

No doubt i can see you're unhappy and that's never good to see. But completly leaving the forum is no solution, that just ends up in looking like you run away from the problem. And that i don't think fit your profile very well, you never run away from a problem. Better either face it or ignore it. If you don't mind i have one small suggestion, take a 3-6 month break instead from it, do something else not related to Maxwell and all that stuff as it's now causing too much stress for people as everyone seems to try to find a way to stab eachother as soon as they're looking the other way. Most important of all tho is.. don't let it get to you Fran, after all it's just a forum with people on it. There are far worse things than this, believe me.

Besides, if you leave permanently then who's gonna keep all us guys in line, with no women around everyone will scatter around like leafs in a autumn storm. :)

I suppose that's what I will do. There is virtually no role for any owner of a Maxwell licence anymore. From NL's perspective, out place is to send them money and just wait like dogs at a table hoping something will fall so we can gobble it up. We are not asked to contribute anything but praise and unconditional support. We are not told what is going on, our suggestion and priorities are not listen to. And worst of all, we are told that this is our fault. Like I said yesterday to Tom, I have never been on the recieving end of so much arrogance and so little performance.

So about all there is to do on the Maxwellforum is snipe at eachother. Or have enjoyable threads about off-topic stuff, which is fine, but its still a wake.

I made a pretty good effort at turning things around and NextLimit just will not have it. They do not deserve to survive. Oscar will take his big brain and apply it somewhere else in a different product. It won't be called 'Maxwell' but then putting the dirt on the box that is NextLimit will not be the end of the technology, as it wasn't their's to begin with, it was and is Oscar's.

Fran I hope you don't leave, that place needs level heads now more than ever and without your insight it's going to be a big loss to us all. I think a 3 or 6 month break is probably a good idea, maybe it will provide some prospective for you and who knows there might actually be something to talk about in 6 months.

The whole thing is bizarre, from the nonsense that spills out of the "A-Team" to the holier than thou stance that NL takes on its customer relations. All of it has affected me in a negative way and I find it very difficult to not have a negative attitude toward NL and the people that support them. I have felt the urge to just quit the forum more than once but I keep going back now just to see who is going to start the next fight. It's a silly reason to keep going back but honestly there is no new technical information that I feel is relevant since who knows if the way Maxwell works today is going to be the way it works when it is finally released. What I've decided is that I'm not getting my money back and I've already invested so much time and effort into Maxwell that it's in my best interest to just hold on for the ride and see where it takes me. I think we will see something useful in the next 6 months but I certainly will never purchase a piece of software again before it has been released.

Well Devin, things are so screwed up over there that no two people have the same idea what my problem with Tom was. Especially not Tom, although I went to great lengths to explain it to him. My problem was his abuse of his moderator privileges and subsequent rude response when I complained about it. He interpreted it as "She says 'Shut your mouth up and go home, leave us alone.'" It bothers me that someone with such a huge chip on his shoulder is allowed to slither around and edit/delete people's posts.

His response to my complaint should have been an apology and nothing less. If he was acting in an official capacity when he edited my post, then in that official capacity, his explanation should have been courteous, not insulting. What he actually did was edit that post for personal reasons, which you just do not do! Anyone who is making this into an "I'm not happy with NL's lack of communication about the status of Maxwell" or "Maxwell sucks" issue is wrong. I'm angry about the treatment I received from a Next Limit employee. I look at that treatment as supported and fully endorsed by Next Limit, so I am chosing to not participate in their community.

I do, however, enjoy watching the fireworks from a distance.

I missed the whole thing. It's probably just as well. Fran is a friend and I would not enjoy seeing that sort of crap used on her, or anyone. But especially someone I know to be fair, levelheaded and smarter than the average bear.

I've been over there saying my goodbye's this weekend. Not that I'll never go back, just not able to get much positive out of it. So why bother, and why ruin the board for those that want to wait it out?

Oh, and let it not be said that I walked into this blindly:

http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/showpost.php?p=58040&postcount=127

I bought my first licence after writing that.
