Brian Cassil
Thanks for keeping us updated. That bug has actually affected me several times.
Vince Paske
I had the same problem with Backburner so I downloaded and installed the patch. Now I get an error message everytime I go to send a network rendering that says: "Error creating 3ds max plugin instance for backburner." Anyone know how to cure that? theqball
were all the machines on the farm updated with the patch?
Vince Paske
Yes...but it doesn't get to the point where you can actually connect to the render drives. It gives the error message when you hit render, with network rendering checked.
theqball
hmmmm.... not sure then. i guess make sure the SP2 patch is also installed for Max8.
Vince Paske
This is what I got back from the Max support forums, I'm going to give it a try tomorrow with IT looking over my shoulder, lol. Thanks for your suggestions. Somehow the backburner section of the registry got broken, which neither the sp2 installer nor the backburner installer does anything to. Open regedit, go to hklm, software, discreet, backburner, 2.0, plugins. Add a string value and name it 3ds max 8. Set its value to the location of 3dsmax8, ie c:\3dsmax8 or wherever you have max installed.
Vince Paske
Well...that didn't work. Back to the drawing board. *edit* After uninstalling it using the control panel, and deleting the contents of both BB2 and BB3, I re-installed the BB patch and it works. Please note I did change the registry values as instructed, but be careful of putting spaces between 3ds max 8 like the support from Autodesk indicated.
