JamesTaylor
does anyone know where outlook stores all the info, such as contacts, inbox etc. I have a new machine and want to swap outlook from my old machine to this one but doing it all manually is going to be a pain and what about all the emails i have sat in my inbox at the minute? i'm presuming that outlook stores all the info externaly and then references it into the interface as we see it? If i can copy all this data to my new machine i'm guessing outlook will then pick it up and carry on as normal? any help appreciated. mbr
File > Export > Export as a .pst file new machine File > Import > Import as a .pst file For the messages themselves, not 100% sure. I used to use Outlook Express and there I would go to copy and paste the .dbx file, but Outlook doesn't seem to stick them in the same place. While we are here, how do I switch from Profile to Profile without closing Outlook?
JamesTaylor
by profile do you mean which account you send emails from? if so when you are creating a new mail there is a button along the main menu called accounts, under here you can select which account to send the mail via. JamesTaylor
Thanks Markus thats worked at treat, for the inbox you can just export the folder in the same way as contacts etc and then import again Cheers!!
mbr
Nice, that will help me too as I've only been able to replace the entire file, not import. I don't have an "Accounts" button that I can find. I have "Email Accounts" under Tools, but that just allows you to edit or add profiles/accounts, not switch. In Outlook Ex there was a simple "Switch Identities" under File that made it a breeze. Any ideas?
JamesTaylor
Have a look at the screngrab attached, having pressed new to create a new mail you should see the accounts button under which you can choose which email account to send the mail with.
