Noise
Whats the best way to create and animate clouds ? Its for a very short animation where the clouds completely obscure the view then completely drift apart. View is from above looking down. I have tried a few things with no real success. thanks n

notamondayfan
try - create boxgizmo (it in helpers atmospheric apparatus) press 8 to open enviroments and effects under atmosphere click add select volume fog (now appears in the list) highlight the volume fog. click pick gizmo, then click on the boxgizmo in your scene. render your scene and ull c a fog like area. alter the settings (best to experiment) i use loads of box gizmos for rolling fog, and just animate the motion of the gizmo. hope that help, dean

kdavenport
If you want "real" clouds, that it particle-based clouds, you could use the PArray. This will allow you to essentially fill a volume with particles; you can use the stock gizmo's orinstance your own if you wish. You can make the particles facing planes and apply some sort of material to them to make them look like tufts of smoke or cloud (I find that using a gradient map on the diffuse color channel set to radial and having some noise and then instanced to the opacity channel works well. Don't forget to set the material to face map under the shader basic parameters!). You can then use the space warps, such as push or wind, to move the particles as needed. alias_marks
my first guess was to possibly use something like Trapcode Particular in After effects with a alpha'd cloud sprite. Then maybe combine that with an animated liquify effect on top of an alpha'd cloud image and animate that way.. kinda depends on the view your going for though... I'd also like to see what you come up with and what solution worked best for ya. Cheers, M- Edited August 18, 2010 by alias_marks typo
