Devin Johnston
I'm not at the point where I want to completely give up on Maxwell yet, but I am seriously tired of the games and name calling that has been going on there. Many of you have been the voice of reason over there and I can't help but feel that by leaving the forum we are going to see even less progress with Maxwell than we have. AdamT
Same. I think the product will be useful some day--it just won't be any day soon. However I really can't tolerate the company or the fanboys who support it. There's no point in participating in the NL forums as there's little left to learn about the current beta and complaints just fall on deaf ears and are then deleted. Ernest Burden III
Ernest, Am I given to understand that you had an actual phone conversation with Mike? What was that all about? Several. I contacted him about how to move the NL/customers situation forward, and between PMs or emails he invited me to call if I wanted, so I did. I've come away from that thinking he really sees things as being about getting MWR out to the users. He acknowledges the problems and didn't disagree with my criticisms of the NL business practices, but felt it was worth enduring in order to get the product out. I do not feel that way, I think that the relationship is more important than the product, no matter how good it is. That attitude is part of why I prefer to buy from Maxon than Autodesk--better company. Anyway, Mike says he has seen amazing things that haven't been shown in public. Without specifics, but his take is that the stuff in the pipeline is revolutionary. (I know, "history in the making!"). So he's doing what he sees as the best way to get the product out in spite of the NL nastiness. I just don't think the ends justify the means. That was the title of my 'so long for a while' thread yesterday...now deleted. Too bad, it was highly supportive to all but Victor. Overall, I like the guy. His recent behaviour is not to my liking, but I think we've all taken this stuff too seriously.
jonosf
but I think we've all taken this stuff too seriously. As the outsider looking in I'd have to so "No you haven't gotten too serious". For us nonbuyers it has been very helpful. Even tho I am not allowed to post over there (didn't realize when I joined the forum in December over there that only paying 'customers' got to ask questions!), it has been extremely informative to hear/read what everyone has to say. Back in December I was interested in purchasing the 'software' but will not now give a company that refuses to answer even pertinent questions (ie What happened to the missing plugins lisitngs?) from its customers, any of my hard-earned income. I had hopes of learning and using an amazing render package to ease me from simply doing CG modeling into doing archVis (getting back to my roots of architecture), it'll happen just using "whatcha got" instead of the "latest thing". Time for me to research vRay for maya. And yeah, I'll still be reading the forum over there - it is way more entertaining than prime time tv. (Insert appropriate non offensive smiley here). Back to rendering. -jono
Ernest Burden III
"No you haven't gotten too serious" Certainly there are some legal consequences that NL might be subject to, but what I meant was that everybody has taken the situation too emotionally. It's just a bad business deal, but from NL to the forum mods to the supporters to the angry customes, its too much anger, insults and foolishness. I've been just as guilty of this as anyone else. But in truth, it's just not worth the energy. I do think you are wise to look elsewhere for your software needs since at the moment NextLimit is unable to supply a working product or a reliable release date, and has demonstrated some unusual business practices. Maybe later things will settle down for all concerned.
siliconbauhaus
The forum over there is a bit like a multiple car pileup, nobody wants to be involved in one but you cant help looking at it. I gave up on maxwell as soon as the first RC/Studio came out. I dont want to learn a seperate piece of soft to be able to use maxwell and the max connection is all buggered. I still use the beta for some production work and will continue to do so until they pull their finger out and get a working product.....might be using beta ad infinitum
