Jorbu
http://www.sketchup.com Wow! this came out of left field. Great news!
Ernest Burden III
Thanks for the post! Hopefully this works for all. I think Google wants a 3D Earth, and its easier to have many people build the cities and towns of the world. By the merging of SU and GoogleEarth they may get that. I'm hoping for the best, @last seem like a good company.
Brian Cassil
Very interesting. So I wonder if Sketchup will ever be FREE! That might not be the best thing for software development though.
IC
Yeah! For once it's not Autodesk. That's good news in itself.
ecastillor
soon google will take over the world and come and take our children.
Brian Cassil
No kidding, I think google is a lot bigger than Autodesk too so unless Google starts selling off it's assets (not likely) Sketchup is in safe hands. Let's hope anyway. The only worry I have is that it goes completely free thereby halting development, or that the development starts leaning toward the 3D world idea, and design development gets left behind. vizwhiz
so is This going To be called "google doodle"?? wait Till The US government subpoenas The database for This Trying To find out who is using it and for what nefarious purposes The owners of Sketchup must have SOLD OUT for a Large $$ or else, They would still be developing it and making some $$
Ernest Burden III
Google, nVidia and VW (not VectorWorks, Volkswagon) are working on a 3D in-dash nav system to grab 3D data, images and traffic info:
angelo
WOW! If @Last is capable of keeping the focus and stewardship as they have in the past, this could be big! So big, that it could have Autodesk quaking in its shoes. They've already lost the race for front end stuff (Arch Studio). It should be very interesting what happens in the next few years with 3D interactive stuff (i.e. 3D DWF/Acrobat 3D). If Google continues to give stuff away for free, then SketchUp "Light" and Google Earth may just wipe these guys off the map. (Or a least force them to become innovative and price their software reasonably.) Bring it on! Angelo
Christopher Nichols
Google, nVidia and VW (not VectorWorks, Volkswagon) are working on a 3D in-dash nav system to grab 3D data, images and traffic info: I love Google earth... Ernest Burden III
I love Google earth... I just love to globe trot and pretende I am living in a smog free world. Me, too. Makes me glad I bought the good video cards. But I don't know if I should have this stuff in my car--I think I would be playing with it instead of watching where I was going. Oh! Do you think this system would allow a model of your car to be shown in realtime in real position? More ways to crash!
Sawyer
Google, nVidia and VW (not VectorWorks, Volkswagon) are working on a 3D in-dash nav system to grab 3D data, images and traffic info But wouldn't that just tell me where all the volkswagons are in the world? lambros
we are used to big companies, and it is not unusual for a small company to lose all innovation when it enters the "big" world. A lot of people are accusing Microsoft just because it is big, it won't be long until the same people will discover an "axis of evil" in google, too. Sketchup is good and it seems that in the mid-term it will benefit from the @last acquisition. Let's see what will happen in the long term though...
