spin
i think you need to use a light in your scene. or add a sky in your environment for your water material to reflect at... hope it'll work, spin this is a big headache for me. why do i get a water dark, despite that transparency is set high and i have gi working. i include an image and scene (20kb) do anyone know what's going on? thanks. tony3di
Just use the VRAY material and then tick affect shadows. It´s also better to use vray shadows in your lights. Cheers:)
d7man2000
that's what i did , water is reflective but not transparent still

kris
You are useing 1.0 for fog in material settings and it has to be something like 0.01. You are using plane for water and I think you need 3d object, like box if you want to use fog.
d7man2000
thanks very much, it looks like vray is not the problem hey kris, I can't open the file I have Max 7 is it possible that you saved as Max 8? is it possible that you could save it as Max 7? thanks a lot guys
d7man2000
i did that tutorial and i am still getting same thing, this drives me crazy i don't know why i'm having so much problem with this tutorial was for earlier version of vray, i don't know if that's the reason here is what i get, it is not same and forget about caustics
kris
I cant save it to max 7. Just make box modell for wather but box should be 5 meters deep so the box goes beneath ground. Set reflection to full and fresnell and refraction is also full white. Play with fog it should be blue color and settings is 0.01 or even lower. Try to put some map I send to you in bump slot. Try to install max 7. Hope this helps.
d7man2000
thanks for reply, sorry for bothering, you mentioned the map that you sent, I can't find it, was it zipped? because I don't see it
d7man2000
it is still dark not sure how you added the fog, is it fog or fog light or volume light?
kris
Its fog in vray material settings. If it is 1.0 with white color than there is no fog but if its any other color than white than you have fog at 100% and you barelly see anything. You should put blue colour fog and settings 0.01 or even 0.001 but I personaly think you have problems with refraction slot. It should be white and thats 100% transparent. d7man2000
i was able to open the file on friend's computer, this the file that you sent. i looks cool but it doesn't look the same. on your image you can see the boxes below sea level, the water in the scene is not transparent
kris
You have to experiment with fog option. Settings should go verry low becouse sea is deep few meters. And dont forget about refraction , it has to be 100%. I have newest build of vray so fog settings are little different here. Try to decrese it 10 or 100 or 1000 times untill you see boxes below. d7man2000
I could go to .001, i think it is the lowest
kris
Do you have fog offset option next to fog.
d7man2000
fog offset? do you mean fog multiplier? I tried again this morning but I am losing heart for this, this fog multiplier is messed up, it is only transparent on 0 but the smallest 0.001 gives me opaque. can you please see what I am doing wrong? i include a scene. thanks. kris
In newer beta build there is option fog offset next to fog multiplayer but in 1.47.03 there is no such option. I think the best you can do is to set fog to 0.002 and scale down your scene 10 times becouse fog is related to real world scale. In the first case your water is transparent for maybe 1 meter and if you scale down everything youll get 10 meters transparency.

d7man2000
mental water is cool but how can I use it with vray?
MaxChan
Hi, I think your initial water setting is OK. It's not the fog thing. I had this encounter when i first started to do pool water. What i normally do is used a light on the pool itself, excluded the water. Do not cast shadow for the water properties. Hope you get to see your stuff under the water
