cain
Do I need a network license to network render? I have gone through the help files and it says to launch full viz on main computer/server and install compact version on the other computers. When I insert the provided cd and start installing on the other computers in the office there is no compact version. Is this something I must pay for? I am using viz 2006. Thanks
lambros
Nope, a network license is used to transfer a license within a network. To use network render, just install viz on all computers. Then use the backburner to launch a network rendering, i.e. run manager.exe and monitor.exe in the host computer and run server.exe on all other computers (you don't have to launch viz on the othe computers on your own)
cain
Thank you Lambros. My other questions is, Can I still apply this with mental ray?
lambros
As far as I remember, mental ray has infinite network licenses with the latest versions of max, I suppose that the same goes for viz. I do not use mental ray at all, so I cannot verify this for you. I think that a visit at the autodesk site will clarify things for you!
marvins_dad
Recently went round and round with Autodesk about the Mental Ray deal with Viz. Viz 2006 only has license for Mental Ray on your workstation...no extra nodes. Max 8 has unlimited... Viz 2007 - they couldn't say, but said it would be similar to Max, however I just looked at that documentation that was linked in the 2007 thread and it states 8 render nodes in 2007. Arkkitekktura
What is the main diferences between VIZ 2007 and MAX 8 any particular reason why chosse either if you want to use primarily for ArchViz?
Brian Cassil
The biggest difference between max and viz is in viz you can only animate the transforms (move rotate scale) at the object level, and a few other simple controllers. Wheather this is enough for arch viz is completely up to the user.
