Christopher Nichols
In features this is usually done with a pan and tile system of a matt painting.
DennisHolland
There was an article about landscaping for anims recently. Check the Groundwiz website (google or http://www.gugila.com). You must use a plug to achive the endless horizon look otherwise your anim will be quite huge (polygon-wise).... If you want to do an anim that only goes up and move around a bit (instead of going the full 360gr) then you can use a city/forrest backsplash like I did in my promo here check the vid on the homepage. DennisHolland
That is a cool clip Anvar! First thought; i'd say start the first 30 fr. slower and pump you speed quite some to the end. I like the movement, real smooth... For this clip you could use a bowl and a citytexture but then you got to have some luck and a few tests... Good luck, post your wip's Dennis
anvaraziz
thanks dennis,,, ill keep postin wip.. now im doing some test with Groundwiz, its good for a hill type background,,,
Christopher Nichols
can u pls explain that work flow... Someone paints a background (sometimes based on a photograph) the camera is imported in the compositing package (that needs to support 3d cameras)... it is fairly involved and usually involves a very talented matt painter like on the ones listed here: http://www.mattepainting.org/index.php?categoryid=13&p16_sectionid=2 Then you will need to composit it in a way that is simlar to the way Rob shows you here: http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/rne02.html

jonel
try put some blured opacity map on the ground plane. This should give you a nice gradient between the ground and sky/background map.
Hao La
matte painting is the best choice
anvaraziz
jonel - thanks buddy,by using opacity maps never worked for me,, i tried that too,, but its not giving depth,.
jonel
for depth, i would use z-depth pass (or fake with fallof map, fog, whatever suites) for masking the white solid layer above rendered image (with GI, like the first example).
anvaraziz
hey that Z depth stuff looks so cool... thanks jonel. its great to add fog on depth... thats a cool idea...
