doujay888
We are planning to replace most of our computers with new sets of pc's. Right now we are simply using P4, 3ghz, 1 gig ram, 256 mb built in graphics card. Can anyone suggest of a high range pc config? Our budget is open, however an option for a mid-range budget would also be ok! Thanks in advance!
lambros
I think that dual core Athlons with 2 GB dual channel ram and ATIs Fire GLs, a nice mobo and Raptors HDs (10000 rpm) for system and a 300GB HD for data would prove to be a decent workstation nowadays. That will be around 1800€ depending on the CPU frequency and the VGA model.

Another route you could go for more future expansion would be a dual processor setup. I'll assume you already have a renderfarm so I'd go for faster single core opterons on a great motherboard such as the Tyan K8WE S2895. -Case - Lian Li V2000B -- or Silverstone Tj07 -Power Supply - PC Power and Cooling 850 watt -Motherboard - tyan K8we s2895 -- -Processors - Opteron 256 3.0GHZ -Memory - 4gb reg ecc corsair ram (4x 1gb) -- -Hard Drives (OS and Progs) (x2) - WD Raptor 74gb in RAID 0 -- -Hard Drive (storage) - 400gb Seagate Barracuda -- -DVD Burner - -Video Card - QuadroFX 3400 or 4500 -windows 64 bit the Opteron 256's are due out any time... mid-late March or early April whatever you end up building, buy a top-notch power supply...I can't stress enough the importance of a high-quality PSU, it'll make you OC higher (if interested), run more stable, and overall - have less problems.
