Carpet

I've seen so many nice renders of interiors by all the artists on this site.. great work.

 

I can't for the life of me find a tutorial on how you do your carpets and rugs though. I mean, is it just something you know how to do or is it a dvd I have to buy or can it be found on the net.

 

Any advice would be appreciated as I'd like to try to create such wonderful looking carpets as seen on this site.

Carpets? Do you mean area rugs? For full on carpet (carpet that covers the entire room) just use a hirez texture map with bump. But if you're wondering about rugs, I only know by using Vray displacement.

Yeah ok sounds good. I meant full carpet that covers the room. Ive seen pictures of it but never really knew how to make it actually look like a carpet and not a plane with a picture of the carpet on it.

 

I really dont know much about vray displacement cuz I just got vray like a week ago and feel very swallowed up by it.

another way is to use hair&fur or something like a hair plugin for you application

You know, Ive heard about doing it that way but when I went to try it, it soooo didnt look right.. as a matter of fact, I dont think it even showed up in the render.

 

Ive got max up and running right now so Im gonna try to mess with doing it the bump map way and see if I can get something similar to what I see.
