Using an alpha map?

Recommended Posts

You got ONE file (tga or tif) with an alpha channel?

You do 'selection' load selection' and choose the alpha channel. Now you can copy the tree cut out and paste it into another image, or duplicate the layer and invert the selection and delete so the background goes.

OR

If you rendered two images then copy the alpha image from one, in the tree image either create a new alpha channel (chanels tab>new) and paste the thing in, follow instructions above.

You can also create a layer mask and paste the alpha image in that, same effect.

None of those choices are working. I have 2 images. One color, one alpha.

1. I copy my alpha map to the clipboard.

2. I choose my color map in the layers by clicking on it once.

3. I move to the channels tab (which has RGB, Red, Green, Blue channels), and select 'create new channel'. Up pops an all black alpha.

4. I paste it into the Alpha Channel where it shows up in the little icon. However, the RGB 'eyes' are now turned off.

5. I flip back to the layers tab and nothing. No change. If I click and drag that layer, transparency does not follow. If I go back to check to see if the alpha is there, it IS in the alpha channel, but it's turned not visible. If I turn it visible, then go to my color map, I get pink around my object, but again no tranparency.

I'm at an absolute loss. I found a way before that included the 'Load Selection' button and adding a layer mask. This just is not working and I want to use my rendered alpha because it's sharper on the edges than doing a majoic wand selection...which introduces fuzziness.

Anyone?

Once you have your alpha image in the alpha channel slot, do as Ernest says above:

"You do 'selection' load selection' and choose the alpha channel. Now you can copy the tree cut out and paste it into another image, or duplicate the layer and invert the selection and delete so the background goes.
