kwerch
Is there a command in Max somewhere to create a crease out of a poly? thx. karl
kdavenport
I easiest way to create a crease that I can think of would be to grab a loop of edges and extrude them in the negative direction. The bevel command would allow for the same thing with a poly, just bevel in the negative direction.

MrCAD
I made a small sample for you maybe you can understand from the edges/vertices how they should be placed in a poly so as it can look like a smooth crease. Please check the images and you need to figure on how to move the vertices and chamfer the edges. hope this helps.. I'll try to make a video tut when I get the time Meher http://www.mr-cad.com
kwerch
MR Cad, that is exactly what I am trying to do. I'm needing a fairly large amount of creases(Closer to Folds) like the large crease on the bottom right of your sample. I'll have to rebuild the models and set them up with this type of geometry. I think this will be a good excercise. I need to learn this part. Adding geometry to an existing shape. Thanks for the info. karl
MrCAD
send me a sample of your existing model that you want to add creases to or maybe an image of the sample you want to create and maybe I can make a tut for you and could be helpful to the rest also. kwerch
That would be most excellent- The model I have is just a basic shape and nothing really refined. I'll send it along anyhow... Very helpful...
MrCAD
I did the basic creation of your image..I'll refine it more till then you can take a look at the poly..took me like 30 mins...need 1 more hr to do the further refining of creases..will upload the final later..till then u can check out the current poly and work on it. MrCAD
Here's an update...I think the creases of your image are endless...hehe...I'll try find later and still add some more details. Meher http://www.mr-cad.com
MrCAD
a little more refined version...prolly last..dont have much time to work on it. Well I made a basic tutorial reference on how to get started with this..check it out here http://www.mr-cad.com/Making-Crease-Using-3D-Studio-Max-p-1099.html Meher http://www.mr-cad.com
MrCAD
Here's a 3ds file for the model without meshsmooth so you can further edit Meher http://www.mr-cad.com
kwerch
Hey Meher, Was out of town the past few days, just looking at your samples now. That is pretty cool! I could only open the last 3ds file for some reason but I get the picture. The tutorial is helpful. For me, I think I ned to figure out how to add more edges as in your tut. I'll soldier on and look through some other info I have. Lot's of creases in this piece of furniture. Somewhat of a crease explosion! karl
