kwerch
When I apply a vray displacement modifier to a cube it seems to work fine. Except that as the faces are set out the amount of the displacement there are the gaps at the corners. I read some of the other posts here about adding a smooth mesh modifier with no iterations and that closed up the gaps just fine. So far so good... the problem I run into is when I check the use object material box. After that, no displacement, just the material applied to the object. What do I need to do differently to get the material and displacement to happen together? thx, karl
jonblaze
go to http://www.spot3d.com it has the vray help files, maybe you can find what you need there.
kwerch
thanks for that link. I've been cruising different tutorials but did not have that one just yet that's a big help. I did find a video that answered my specific question. Took a couple of run throughs to get an idea of what I was looking at but it finally made sense. http://www.evermotion.org/index.php?unfold=tutorials&unfold_tutorials=4#1.4 # 25 on the list. the 3d displacement... I needed to put the displacement map into the max materials section and not the Vray map section. Then when I get into vray's displacement modifier and I choose use object material it refers to the displacement map I put in the max material displacement map. It makes sense in a roundabout type of way It's pretty cool...I would say it rocks but that would be too corny...
Andrew Schroeder
Kwerch, If I'm picturing your initial problem right, you should be able to solve it by putting a check in the "Keep Continuity" box of the Vray displacement modifier. I've never had to put the displacement map anywhere other than in the vray displacement modifier slot. Best Regards, Andrew Schroeder
kwerch
Hey Andrew, I just tried your suggestion-I deleted the map in the displacement slot of the vray material and checked the keep continuity box- No bumps. Maybe I have something set up somewhere differently. The other way seems to work just fine. thx. You can compare the two images- The bump image is included in my previous post-the displacement image with no displacemnt in the vray material slot gets me this image.
