Window Blinds? Objects behind glass?

Hey guys,

I've recently been trying to improve realism in my renderings and noticed a lot of what I lacked was within the windows (I only do exteriors BTW). I've never used blinds on the inside, nor really had anything but empty space.

Have any of you used blinds on the insides of the windows?

Did it improve the realism?

Does anyone have a bitmap of blinds they'd be willing to share?

And what else do you put on the insides of buildings to give more realism in your renders? I dont exactly want to populate all the individual rooms of say a hotel, increasing the polycount if I dont have to.

i tend to put curtains or blinds in windows, not all of them just here and there, other things may be plants or ornaments too. Generally just look at what appears in windows of the houses you walk past and bare it in mind when rendering, i think the small details often don't get noticed in themselves but they are noticed subconciously.

another thing i'm starting to do is to have an inner skin to my buildings, so where you do see through a window you can see a white or coloured wall rather than a brick texture which wouldn't usually be there, may a picture too. these things only need placing where they will be seen no need for a fully kitted out room.

finally i'm not sure having a pop at people not replying to posts is going to help gain a response, sometimes that is the way it goes......

That's the thing though. I dont care if they respond anymore. It's become useless for me to ask a question here at CGA.

Renderosity folk are more than happy to help. So now that I have my blinds, people can grab them if they want, get offended at my comments if they wish, and just keep it movin.

I had the same problem with the windows...a blind is a good option...I made just one simple blind in Autocad...a polyline with thikness...and I put it in some windows with different scales...do they don't look the same...if you are using Vray ort any other GI engine...Take tha glass out of the calculation, and receive and project shadows off.

I always have some window coverings but never on all windows and I try to get some variety in there. Plants and chairs on balconies give a feeling of life.

I always think the people here are very helpful. Sometimes I can't be bothered replying to a topic that's been covered a few times already and I know that's not fair on the thread starter but what can you do?

I'm not really salty or angry at anyone. I just remember getting a lot more feedback and help in the past than I get nowadays.

As for blinds being a topic discussed, I did a search and came up with nothing other than the Max script (no max use). Regardless, I uploaded a quick texture. I still have to figure out how to even model drapes and maybe model vertical blinds too.

Don't give up on us Ryan. There are a lot of pre-occupied activities going on on the site that are keeping a good number of us busy. I enjoy your posts and usually try to reply. There have been several times I have started threads that I thought would get a ton of response, only to find the opposite. Sometimes we get missed. Stick around man, you're starting to get real established. Hope to see more posts in the future. Just don't call us punks if we don't happen to be fast enough to reply.
