XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 Extreme Edition

Recommended Posts

No, but the board looks perdddy and you'll be able to brag to all the other boys at the LAN party this Friday. ;-) Seriously though, like anything it depends on what you want it to do. For pure viewport poly-crunching, you can get cheaper cards that will perform almost the same.

E-vga sells a similarly clocked card 7900GT CO (500 gpu, 1500 ram) for 319.00 USD. It's roughly equivilant to a 7800 GTX in performance.

Note that most of the 7900 card's are currently out of stock at most of the good online stores, and stores which happen to have a few are charging huge markup's on them.

If you wait for the next major batch to reach retailers, prices should reset to their original MSRP estimated 250-300 USD.

thx v much for comments Guys,

of course I need it for 3d/cad performance together with Athlon 64 2X 4400+ and Asus A8N32Sli De Luxe;

recently I gave up with buing second-hand quadro1400 ( v cheap but no software included), hoping to add twin Sli card soon;

7800 GTX 512Mb seems overpriced, by now approx. 700 $ here

I ll be grateful for other comments

These aren't the droids your looking for!

*waves hand*

The 7800 GTX is pretty overpriced, but you do have to remember its got 512 megs of ram, vs the 7900GT's 256. As such, there is a performance difference at very high resolutions.

Quick summary. You start seeing performance differences at 1600x1200 and higher. However the situations being benchmarked here aren't DCC related, and thus probably aren't indicative of your viewport performance unless your dealing with an enormous amount of textures.

I'd get a 7800GT or 7900GT. I'd really hold out for the 7900GT if possible. Thats the card I'm personally getting.

Since the 7800GTX is almost 2x as fast as a 6800 GS, I'd gander that two 6800 GS's in SLI wouldn't beat a single 7800 GTX, as sil isn't exactly that efficent, nor is it fully utilized in every game/application. I honestly think its still a big fad, or "e-dick waving" as some of my friends call it.
