vray proxy replacing a block

Hi, I ve got a drawing in Autocad of an auditorium where all the seats are positioned as blocks and rotated in the correct way. The problem is that I want to bring this set up in to 3ds max and replace the 2d blocks with a 3d model of the seat (using a vray proxy). Is this possible or do i have to position every seat individual and rotate them as needed? Have a lot of seat and so hoping there would be an easier way.

Thanks all the same

Why would you explode the seat into 5 different meshes instead of just keeping one?

Also if I was to just position each vrayproxy of the seat individually does it make any different how you copy the vrayproxy (copy, instance or reference) and which would be the best in this situation. Vertually all the seats would be the same except for the ones on one of the end (two arm rests) and the ones through the middle (more detail to show when taking a section through).

Thanks for the quick reply

To clarify, I was suggesting selecting several rows of your seats at a time and grouping them all into a single vraymesh rather than creating a vrayproxy for one seat and duplicating it round several hundred times.

So you might end up with say 5 vrayproxies each representing 5 different banks of seating which together make up your whole seating layout.

This gets round having to convert each chair, copy and realign it several hundred times but still keeps the seating out of max memory til rendertime.

Hope that's clear!
