Help with Xfrog & VRay

I think Xfrog has very realistic foliage, but it takes centuries to render a high quality still scene with xfrog, not to mention an animation. Does anybody has some tips on how to speed things up?

Im using an AMD 64, 3GB RAM, Viz 2005, Vray 1.47, Nvidia GeForce 256 Mb.

Am I missing something?

Another thing I always do is use either optimize or multi-res on the trees. It will help cut down on the number of polygons.

Another trick that I just found out about, was to replace the opacity mapped leaves with actual geometry in the shape of leaves. It will increase your face count, but actually decrease the rendering time, becuase it gets rid of all the opacity mapped leaves that Vray doesn't like.

Someone in the Vray forums posted a link to a script that they created to do this, I don't know the link off the top of my head though.

possibly, there is a need for you to register, unless you are already a registered user.

There is also a relatively new Forum initiated by Greenworks, which deals with Xfrog and Max

here it is: http://www.remotion4d.net/3dsMax/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17

good luck decreasing your rendertime and don't forget to let us know if you have been succesful.

best regards

Darius
