mourkos
Hello everyone My girlfriend and she wants a new laptop to work on autocad and 3Dstudio max. Our budget is limited at 1500$. I know that's not enough to have top notch laptop, but I am still waiting for your recommendations..;
AJLynn
Actually I'm starting to see Core Duo laptops at that price or less. Troll the ads in the Sunday papers - I still have mine here, and CompUSA for example is advertising a Toshiba Centrino Duo for $1100 with a 1.66GHz Duo, 15" screen, 1GB/100GB and DVD burner. I'd look for a Duo with 1GB and look carefully at the video card - you want a Radeon or Geforce, not an Intel video chip, and it should have 128MB or more of dedicated memory (not shared memory, or "Turbocache" or "Hypermemory" which are euphemisms for shared memory). mourkos
Sure I think of that and it is hard to find laptop with good graphic cards... Moreover do you think that XGA+ resolution is enough or should I choose noting less than WUXGA? tx for your answers
Christopher Nichols
You may want to check out Sager's... in terms of features and performance for the money, it is hard to beat. Try buying through PCTorque... http://www.pctorque.com/sager-laptops.php

AJLynn
Damn they've got some powerful stuff. But no notebook with both Core Duo and a good video card - on their web site they advertise a (fairly inexpensive) Core Duo box but with Intel graphics. Oh well, I was going to hold on to my current notebook for several more months anyway.
mourkos
Core duo maybe powerfull but for laptops it seems that is not working so well. Indeed, it completly destroyes battery life. So...
Christopher Nichols
All of those laptops are based on the Clevo... Clevo makes the laptops for Boxx, Alienware, Sager, etc... Sager is the cheapest. I have the 3880 and I love it. Can do pretty much everything I want, including Render in Vray not too badly, and play Fear... I think when I got mine I paid around $1600 for it. baniabassian
I bought a laptop for exactly what your's asking for. I got an acer ferrari 4005, 64bit AMD Turion processor i can't remember the speed but its fast, 1GB RAM, ATI X700 256MB dedicated memory graphics card. Dual layer slot loading DVD+/- rewriter and a fantastic 1600x1200 screen. Its really slim and light compared to any other desk top replacement and has similar pefrormance, which is the reason why i got it as i thought the others were simply too large. Acer have some dual core models now so take a look, prices are very reasonable.
