gerald delgy
I have recently been asked to an architectural animation that consists of an exterior fly-by and an interior walk-thru. Due to the complexity of this project I've used a great deal of the 24 available material editor slots for the exterior alone and have yet to begin the interior portion. My fear is that I will soon run out of available material slots (yes, I have been using double sided and multi/sub whenever possible). The client wants one 60 second animation (30 exterior, 30 interior) for their website. Is there any way that I can combine two separate AVI files into one presentation? Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody, Gerald
STRAT
first off, just because max has only 24 slots, doesnt mean you can only use 24 materials. you can have literally 10000000's of different materials in the same model. a couple of quick ways to combine 2 animations - 1) any post editing software such as sony vegas or adobe premier will easily splice 2 anims together. 2) max's video post will splice 2 anims together 3) max's backround rendering will also splice 2 anims together. Arnold Sher
i am not sure i understand the problem. Are you running out of the material slots and that is the issue or you are having difficulty with combing an exterior animation with interior animation? By the way if it is the material slots that you are running out of that is not a problem as you can have all the materials that you want and need. All you need to do is select a material slot that you do not want to see(you will not loose it in your rendering) click on the cross button just below the material slots and you will see that a window will pop up asking you if you want to retain this material within your scene(or something along those lines) just click yes and then go ahead and make a new material. gerald delgy
STRAT & Arnold, Thank you both for your help. I'm fairly new to doing animations and wasn't aware that you could have more than one map in a material space. 24 spaces was always more than enough for still renderings and running out of material slots was becoming an issue because I was afraid that I wouldn't have enough for the interior. My original thought was to create two different animations from a completed exterior and an interior and splice the two together. But since I now know how to have as many materials as I want, I can now have everything in one single file. Again, thank you both very much.
