jackb602
I'm looking for a model of a rail car for a museum project. I found this one through TurboSquid but the price of $150 seems high, and this is a small project. I've attached a photo of the actual rail car I want to approximate. Can anyone recommend other places to look for a model like this? Thanks, Jack
IC
I know it's not what you're asking but surely you could model that in about half an hour? It might even be quite enjoyable as a wee break from the usual clean line stuff we do.
Ernest Burden III
I looked through my usual links and didn't find anything. I could look for a model I built back in the dark ages of a commuter railroad car for the undercarriage, though it would be pow-poly. Let me know if you can't come up with anything and I'll go look for that old file.
jackb602
Thanks for the tips, and for your offer Ernest. I suppose I could model it myself, but I'm afraid I'll get carried away with all the detail and waste a lot of time. If I hadn't agreed to a relatively puny fee for the job, I'd be perfectly comfortable buying the model I found. I may go ahead and do that anyway in the interest of time. Tony
IC, half an hour? If you can model and texture that in 1/2 an hour with the amount of details in the photo, I would like to hire you! Tony

jackb602
Thanks so much Dennis! That's perfect for my project. Is DeEspona your site, or a 3rd party site for models? It looks like it has a great collection. Thanks again, Jack
DennisHolland
Hi Jack, No, DeEspona is a company with 3D modelers. They sell detailed models on CD-rom's. Check their website Good luck with your project, regards. Dennis

Tony I bet 90% of the people here could do it in under an hour. I take part in the Speed Modelling Challenge on 3DTotal and I'm constantly amazed at what you can do in that time. At first I used the techniques I use for architectural modelling and I was quite slow but every week I got more relaxed and really speeded up. You should try it. And, anyway, you couldn't afford me
