anindia
i ve used 3d max6, no advanced lighting,no plugins,no photometric lights.just ve used spot lights and omni lights. i e tried vray and photometric light with raytracer assigned but the rendering time seems to be so long. i ve assigned bouncing effect of raytracer to 3, then render it with vray. but even after 8 hours it couldn't complete the passes. can anyone suggest me what to do to minimize rendering time i am using p4, with 1 gb ram and 256 mb grafics card. please give me some suggestions. i am specially thankful to nibbler for his suggestions in my previous post. -aniindia

VRay comes with its own type of shadows, so you won't use max's raytracer. In fact, VRay is a much faster raytracer. Normally, IES lights render slower in VRay, but 8 hours seems a bit too much. In order to give you any advice, we need to know your VRay settings. Also, you processor's speed would help judging the render times. Give us more specs and info on you settings. ApeiNe
Same thing, it's relly awesome time only for that. Sure that IES is a bit long to render, but that's strange that you couldn't finish this render after 8H Isn't that Maxwell you're using ? Try to make a screenshot of your render profile to let us know the problem
sardesign
I'm learning very quickly that you can create pretty decent renderings with Mental Ray and not break the bank when it comes to time. You just need to learn how to optimize the settings so you get the best looking image with the least amount of calculations. If you are ever interested, check out Evermotion's mental4ever. Someone at this forum was nice enough to let me know about that DVD. I now understand what some of the settings do (better).
