John Dollus
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~kand/caustics/ Can be used for displacement, bump, opacity, etc...
jvlive
hey, that caustics generator looks cool. thanks!

John Dollus
Oh, I understand. How about this: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/archive/index.php?t-10869.html Which version of Max do you have? There was a nice example waterfall scene included back when they added particle motion blur - maybe Max 2 or 3?
anindia
hi john, thanks for ur reply. but i need some kind of animated map. i ve seen it somewhere in the net but i couldn't remember actually. using an animated map makes the file more smooth and realistic. the rendering time also becomes less. thanks. John Dollus
Here is another one that I think is closer to what you want but it's till particles. http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/tutorials/SM_waterfall.pdf You can achieve a similar effect through maps-only by doing the following: 1. Create a plane for the weir overflow. 2. In the material editor, go into the opacity slot and add a noise map (either regular or fractal works pretty good). 3. Turn off the show end result toggle so you see the whole map and not a sphere. 4. In the Noise submap, turn down the Tiling for Y direction down to around .2 or so and turn up the tiling for X to 3-ish. 5. You should see vertical streaks in the material window at this point 6. To get a flowing effect, animate the Y offset. 7. You can add either add another noise map in the diffuse slot to vary the color a bit or duplicate the plane geometry and assign a duplicate of the material with a different phase in the noise slot to mix things up a bit. This is just a very quick step by step to get you going. You can get some nice effects by using it in the refraction/reflection slot depending on what render engine you are using. Chad Warner
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~kand/caustics/ Can be used for displacement, bump, opacity, etc... Did anyone download this program that wants to send it to me? The link isn't working right now and I could really use it for an indoor pool. chad@bluelime.com Thanks
Ernest Burden III
Did anyone download this program that wants to send it to me? I sent you the file that I believe came from that link. I never tried it, just saved it 'in case'.
