Hi everybody,

We've been searching to buy high-res tree-models lately and have come across several good ones. We are particulary very interested in the ones that Xfrog delivers. Has anyone bought these already? What do you think of their collection?

and most importantly: what are the pro's en cons of Xfrog?

tnx & rgds

hola, nisus

congratulations on winning the challenge.

i dont know about those trees, i cant find anywhere in the site a poly count i may be dangerous to buy a library of trees without knowing the size of those trees in your archive, are you familiar with the forest plug in...

if u are thinking of working trees in background or near your camera placement forest plug in is the best option.

anyway lets wait to hear the opinion of some one who has try them..

rgds.

hi dudes,

i tried the demo, they give you some models with them. unfortunately you cannot export to the different file formats from their polygon-lowering-tool; xfrogtune, so i got quite big trees as model in the end. they are nice though, and xfrog itself works very easily, i think the possibilities are very nice.

they also have cd-roms with plants/trees in them, but i figure you would still need xfrogtune to get your polygon count to a more handy number...

Hi miguelalfi,

Do you mean forest lite? I knew the plugin but didn't get it to work yet, since we have our own tools and low-poly-models. We are just looking for good detailed and real-looking high-res trees for this moment. But I think Xfrog has a tool to lower polygoncount too ;)

Mmm... there is a demo too!

well... we use some tweaked xfrog trees...

The deal about xfrog is , that there is a free maxplugin, which loads the trees and a comercial authoring tool for designing trees.

The authoring tool is ..well, call it.. overkill for someone who only want few typical trees.

If you only want some basic trees, then have a google search for free xfrog trees and import it to max/viz... collapse them to an editable mesh and optimize it or exchange maps ..and so on.
