proces2
i'm curious if anyone knows of a software that can model sound dynamics. just as real flow can model (i suppose simulate) fluid dynamics ... is there some way to work with 3d objects and sound dynamics? i guess it would have to be something that looks at material density/porosity as opposed to mass properties like a physical dynamics software does. anyone heard of a software that does this? or a method that could be used with other more well known dynamics software/plug-ins to study sound? sean
jackb602
Back in architecture school, around 1997, we had an engineer from Bose show us some software they had developed to simulate acoustics. I kind of doubt it's available to the public, but it might be worth asking. Jack EDIT: A quick google search turned up this.
briantone
Hey there- The program I'm familiar with is called CATT-Acoustic. Check it out here: http://www.catt.se/ CATT stands for Computer Aided Theatrical Technique and, yes, you are right when you assume that you assign each surface an absorption coefficient. Surprisingly good results-- I've seen it in action and it is really impressive. Good luck!
proces2
thanks for the suggestions. i'll start poking around some of that stuff and see where it goes.
