Ernest Burden III
Not sure I understand your hesitation, what would be the point of being able to add these maps to the AGS unless they worked properley? They could just adjust diffusion...but you're right, it makes more sense that if its called a bumpmap, then it would tweek normals so that reflections would be distorted. Without that you can't do this, except by modeling:
Devin Johnston
I was working on a rendering using this effect once when I was told by a designer not to do that because that is an example of improperly installed glass.

Heh, well if that's the case I've never seen properly installed glass.
Devin Johnston
I know, I almost fell out of my chair laughing at the guy.
AJLynn
If that's the building I think it is, it does do that, only a bit less so I think. I worked in an office a while back with a guy who did all his glass like this, in a very exaggerated way, but I think that's because he used Brazil and they had a demo on "oilcanning" and he thought it was a really cool new technology. Sawyer
I was working on a rendering using this effect once when I was told by a designer not to do that because that is an example of improperly installed glass. I had the exact same cenversation with an architect. Then one day we were in a car together and I was able to point out all of the times it occured and he really seemed like he had never noticed it before and said that "it should not be happening". Devin Johnston
Yea I think Architects and Designers have this idealized concept in their heads about what things should look like even if they don't really look that way in real life. I don't know how many times I've been told to make my glass look more realistic by putting clouds in the reflections. When I try and explain that you wouldn’t really see clouds at this angle, or they wouldn’t be as pronounced as they are requesting it seem to go in one ear and out the other. Sometimes I wonder what the client is going to do once their building is finished and they find out that my renderings look way better than their building will ever look.
