Christopher Nichols
That is great... but reading this made me realize. Cinema 4D is very popular with Mac users... mainly because it is their only option besides Maya. And they are sort of out of luck with this. But then I realized. Vray standalone is being developed for Linux. If that is the case, when you combine the fact that Mac's are now Intel based, I would thing that an OSX version could be easily made. hmmmmmm.... curious. Frosty
Chris, the site states that it will run on OSX Intel Macs.
Paul Griger
Very nice! Another tool in the arsenal to chose from. Didn't understand why C4D was offered vRay after Truespace ..but guess that's another topic Thx for the info Strat. Cheers, Paul
jackb602
Chris, the site states that it will run on OSX Intel Macs. Will it run under Windows on the Intel Macs, or actually on OS X? Since Vray will now be available for two apps (Maya and C4D) that have large Mac user bases, I hope they'll decide to bring Vray to OS X directly. AJLynn
Windows. They say they want to do a translator for C4D for Mac, and you could use Windows Vray with Bootcamp, Parallels or VirtualPC (or presumably Vray standalone for Linux), but you're right, those all have drawbacks. Nic H
hmmm this may require a return to C4D! Changed over to 3DMax around version 5.....then Vray kept me there, but now.... ArchiCAD--->C4D + Vray =

jackb602
Vlado, the developer of Vray, posted this on the CGtalk forum today As for an OSX port, we are actually looking into this; since V-Ray already runs fine on Linux, a port to OSX should be straightforward. Best regards, Vlado Sounds like very promising news to me. Jack
skala67
looks like we are all heading towards a cohesive industry. (approached from all different anlges of course.) This is exciting news.
Chris_Mac
There's something I'm still not clear on... 'VRAYforC4d' is apparently "a bridge to stand alone Vray". So, does this mean we will have to purchase a copy of Vray Stand alone AND a copy of VRAYforC4D?... or is VRAYforC4D a stand alone application. I'm pretty concerned that it could end up costing over 1000 Euros to get started with Vray... I'm really quite satisfied with the results I get with C4D GI (+colormapping), and I don't really know if it'd be worth the money.
Frosty
The way i read it, you would purchase VRay standalone...the bridge is free - as in it comes with the stand alone application.
STRAT
yup, i understand it as you buy vray stand alone, and the bridge for c4d is thrown in for free. i too am generally happy with c4d gi, but constantly looking for a better gi animation solution. something that actually works this might be another answer. FR2 certainly does it nicely, but it overcomplicates itself with all it's options, it's pretty fiddly to use, and it's still very unstable imo, which is whay my copy i purchased a few months back is still basically on the shelf. Ernest Burden III
The way i read it, you would purchase VRay standalone...the bridge is free - as in it comes with the stand alone application. Yes, but I'm assuming that the bridge developers are getting the vRaySA at a reseller discount, so that they actually see some profit for their troubles. AJLynn
Yeah, the way I read it is you need to buy the thing as a package - not email them and say "I own Vray, please send my the free plugin". Hopefully they'd also sell it separately at a reasonable price.
Ernest Burden III
Does Chaos currently allow owners to use their vRay licence with different programs, or is it tied to one?

edub
I've been away for a while, so apologies if this has been discussed in other threads/ forums, but can anyone inform me of the status of this project? I checked the website linked in the original post, and can't seem to find any recent info.
AJLynn
I don't think there is any recent info - but usually there's a hold on new info in the weeks before Siggraph, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were something new next week. The pieces seem to be mostly in place - Chaosgroup is making a Vray 1.5 announcement at Siggraph and is even distributing the new security dongles, and I think I saw that the C4D plugin people had something mostly working a few months ago.
