skala67
I wont be able to make it to boston this year. Could someone post any Vray siggraph updates after the conference? Cheers and have fun in Beantown (the motherland)
leoA4D
,,, and I think I saw that the C4D plugin people had something mostly working a few months ago. Update: no Vray/C4D bridge announcement at Siggraph. See post #12 here: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=387775 Renato's programming is coming along, according to lllab of the bridge team. Fingers are crossed for sometime this fall. Ky Lane
Ooooh...could this mean I could use all the dumb dual cpu G5 macs I laugh at all day here to network render? Excitement!
Frosty
CGArchitect has prided itself for years as being a board that discusses the virtues of professional artistic work. It is not a forum of mudslinging and platform flame wars. There are a number of very talented artists on this board that use those "dumb" G5s to produce some exceptional work. I suggest you re-think your critique of a freely accessible lab full of dual CPU computers. To me that is a tremendous arsenal of computing power that I would be bending over backwards to use.....particularily if I didnt have to pay for it! Evening Steve, As a graduate Master of Digital Design, and now lecturer, and 12 years experience in design, Ive had MORE than enough experience on the more fragile species. I personally have 2 G5's and 2 PC's at my disposal in my personal studio - and while they have their place, Ill always have my preference. However, I dont take their merits (or lack thereof) personally. Theyre just tools.
AJLynn
All the dual G5 Macs? You have more than one of these to yourself and you're not happy about that? Those will run Cinema, Maya and Modo just as well as Windows does. If there are other Windows users with G5s they don't use, you could trade them beer to appropriate them as render boxes and get a farm going. Check this out: http://3dfluff.com/mash/cinebench/dual.php - the new round of Intels is a fair bit faster than all these, but the G5s go head to head with AMDs in the CB Dual category (multi CPU rendering). Ky Lane
Oh they do their job just fine, but Im far more productive on PC for the majority of what I do. Unfortunately, macs are a necessary evil in the design field. But like I said, theyre just tools, not an extension of anything fallic or otherwise. Being relatively new to 3d, Im max 100%, so just the ability to use the current macs in a farm is exciting enough, but otherwise, theyre such pretty paperweights
AJLynn
Heh. You could swap instances of "Mac" and "PC", change "max" to "Modo" and "pretty" to "ugly". Don't be dissn my Mac. My Mac can kick your PC's ass.
