bigroo
I have not used water in a scene before and would like to know the best way to go about it. I wanted just a simple test in calm water with a few ripples, nothing fancy. (I guess no sensible developer wants to see a storm force gale in his render!) A quick look in the reference files in max7 brought up 'waves map' but I can't seem to get anywhere with it. I've opened the Material Editor > Maps rollout > Clicked a Map button > Material/Map Browser > Waves : now how do I apply it to my plane? The assign material to selection is greyed out. Am I ignoring something simple here - I am very tired Thanks in advance. Forgot to say, I'm using Vray
mtb0506
Do you have the plane that you want to apply the map to selected?
bigroo
Yes, it's the only object in the scene for the test. Do you modify it in PS?
Logitek
hello Michael, You have to put the "wave" Material in the bitmap (or bump or displacement or whaterver) slot in order to be able to apply it to an object. Good luck.
bigroo
Cheers Logitek, I've just been reading about it in http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/showthread.php?t=9471&page=2&highlight=wave Thanks again
