olbo
Heya Michiel, this version should work with 3dsmax6 too. ;o) If you take Vray for example, there is only one plugin for 3dsmax ... they have diff. links on there site, but it points to the same file. take care Oleg
Devin Johnston
Can I ask one thing is it faster yet because untill the speed improves there is no way to work it in to a pipeline. phil It seems to be about the same speed as RC5 was, can't really tell for sure but it's definitely not that much faster. AJLynn
First V1 render. 9 hours, SL 14.44 on a Core Duo 2GHZ 2GB. Tried to glare it up but that crashed MXCL.
Devin Johnston
that looks good, what's the resolution?

Adehus
If I'm understanding Tom correctly, glare is only active for preview renderings, and will only be fully implemented as a v1.x update.
Ernest Burden III
If I'm understanding Tom correctly, glare is only active for preview renderings, and will only be fully implemented as a v1.x update. What would be the point of that?
Devin Johnston
No wonder all those glare images looked so bad the weren’t even rendered with the RS1 engine.
Adehus
@ Ernest- Hey... your guess is as good as mine... Also looks like HDRI is a 1.x feature as well...
AJLynn
Wait, I got the glare to work in MXCL. The problem before was glaring the image, then adjusting the slider and reglaring it - that pissed off the Windows gods. Here's one where I made a white hexagon on a black background in Illustrator, saved it out as a PNG file and put it in both glare-related slots. (I understand aperture but I don't understand obstacle, do I need both?) After loading the glare maps you need to refresh. Actually, for this one I don't like the glare at all, I think it's better if I don't have to obey all the limitations of real cameras. And I still don't get how to make DOF work. EDIT: BTW, how do I get an HDR image out?
Devin Johnston
Have you messed with network rendering yet?
AJLynn
No, until I get the new license file and/or actually get Maya to accept the rest of my subscription money (what's with these people? - I email them and say "I want to give you some money" and they don't respond) I only have a license for 2 CPUs, so I can only the dual core or a desktop but not both (the license floats). AJLynn
I'm having a problem making non-diffuse materials look good. I never really spent any time with the RC material system.
Devin Johnston
have you tried the wizzard yet?
Adehus
I'm having a problem making non-diffuse materials look good. I never really spent any time with the RC material system. From Tom: "Hi, We're sorry for some obsolete materials settings. We've created some of them during the development and now Nd for metals should be equal or greater than 3 due to improved new fresnel. We'll soon provide these fixed. Best regards, Tom" Maxwell Render :: Log in
AJLynn
I gave up on actually learning this stuff until I have more time - right now I need as much production as I can get in a week for my final presentation. So I'm using MXMs and a bit of experimenting, and going with expression over realism. I'll be going with a mix of C4D AR2, fR2 and M~R (for different uses).
