runrun
I've had some success with 1.0 Intel. Coop rendering actually works pretty good, except for the way the merges are performed. Manually merging them works better. I'm wanting to see if I can get Mac & PC nodes coop rendering to work, but I can't seem to download the Mac version, keeps dying on me. Anyone get SSS to work? Giovanni Scocchera
I don't want to open a new thread so I continue here. And my first "Dare I ask?" is this. They told us that "resume" is not anymore needed because we can merge more mxi. I rendered this scene twice (the first for 8 hours, the second for 10) on my 3800+X2 - 2GBram, then I merged them into the 3rd image that is slightly better than the second one. I guess that after another 8 hours the second render had would been better [The original resolution was 2400x1600] Furthermore the *.mxi generated was 405MB!!! and there were no emitters, only phisical sky and sun. What do you think about this? Ciao, Jo
runrun
I don't see much difference in the 3rd merge. I think I'd prefer the old resume feature to resume from the last S.L. This is my biggest issue with M~R, interior noise. I'm currently trying to find a good setup for interior with mosly physical sun light. Render times to eliminate noise take way too long. My default 2 and default 3 are around 30 minutes and 10S.L. There has to be a better way.

Giovanni Scocchera
This is my first attempt with multilighting. 1280x720 + 5 emitters ---> *.mxi 486MB??!??!!! Ciao, Jo

Giovanni Scocchera
I'm not sure, but I tested more the cooperative MXI (instead of resume) and it seems to be ok... I don't know what is happening if timings are longer. Ciao, Jo
Bongo51
I don't know why they had to make this stand alone in the first place. I understand that people can use this with applications not normally considered 'mainstream' however, When I use the beta it's seamless and quick. Trying to DUPLICATE everything I have done in Lightwave in Maxwell studio... and get it to render correctly is an extra step I'd rather not deal with. The material editor is overly complex now. Just imagine how integrated and intuitive maxwell would be if they discarded the stand alone and concentrated on integrating maxwell fully into the big apps... Maya, Lightwave, 3DS, etc. A truly intuitive materials editor with REAL dynamic feedback... In my opinion the whole affair is pretty much an afterthought, hobbled together hodgepodge of features (impressive though they are) mashed together in a remarkably unfriendly package. Did anyone there even READ the feature/interface requests that hundreds of users were posting? I have designed many GUI interfaces for products and I can tell you... this really isn't the best... certainly not up to the quality and power of the featureset. It seems a potentially great product has been hamstrung by a seriously underpowered interface. I for one will continue to use maxwell from Lightwave. I've been using Lightwave since 1998, why in the BEEP would I want to master yet another 3D app... just to render something. It's stupid. (IMO) They should really be making two products... the plugin sets... and the stand alone. The only way I could imagine anyone using studio is if they have no plugin for their choice app... Ian. Devin Johnston
Ian that has been one of the biggest sticking points I've had with Maxwell and where NL has taken its development. The plugins worked just fine, I can't see how creating a standalone app actually helps NL sell any more licenses or makes working with Maxwell any easier. Their focus should have always been on the plugins and bridging the gap between the applications and their plugin interfaces. I think the simple fact is that they promised way more in the plugins than they were able to deliver and the only way they could come up with to save them selves was to create Studio.
