jtiscareno
I think almost everyone has seen that very cool effect in arch animations of a growing wall or a growing city or buildings. My question is how does one start to get that effect, is it done in video editing with premier, after effetcs, combustion or is it done in max directly. And the second question is can someone point me in the right direction to start learing that great effect. Thanks!!!

jtiscareno
Martin thanks sounds good, but I have never animated a modifier, how can i do this???
martincg
same way like anything else, one way is this - simply example /max8/: 1. crate box /wall/ - aply slice modifier /check remove top/ and move "slice plane" near to bottom of box. 2. set "Auto Key " ON /red mode/ 3. now you are in frame 0 ,must create start keys for animation: click on big black key - "Set Key" 4. set frame to 50 and move "slice plane" up 5. click on "Set Key" 6. go to frame 0 and start animation DONE
FlytE
Does animating a slice modifier work in viz07 ? I was told it wasnt possible for viz06 ....
Jason Matthews
I do not believe you can animate modifiers in Viz...only in max. Correct me if I am wrong.
kuneho
How about putting the building or walls below the ground at the start of the movie then just set a new keyframe then move the building up.
aligrafix
if you wana do this, go for it but i tell you one thing that this will not give you growing buildings effect. this will only give you the movement of buildings which looks quite clear. Slice is the best way to do it. i suggest you to experience both and see what suits you best for your demands
jtiscareno
same way like anything else, one way is this - simply example /max8/: 1. crate box /wall/ - aply slice modifier /check remove top/ and move "slice plane" near to bottom of box. 2. set "Auto Key " ON /red mode/ 3. now you are in frame 0 ,must create start keys for animation: click on big black key - "Set Key" 4. set frame to 50 and move "slice plane" up 5. click on "Set Key" 6. go to frame 0 and start animation DONE Martin thanks but I know I have to be doing something wrong beacuse your suggestion is not working!!! I did the steps you recommended to the "t" and when I play directly with the slice plane it looks like it is "growing" out but when i do the final set key the building collapses to the inital set key and the modifierdoes NOT animate??? Any suggestions.... the slice plane modifier looks like the way to go but am i missing a setp to be able to animate a mofifier??? Many thanks!!! So why those it work with autokey and not with set key...am I missing a setting somewhere???
