jophus14
I am rendering an image at 800X600 like always, then I plan on using the saved prepasses to render out the same image at 3600X2400. I've done it before with other images. For some reason, after loading the saved prepasses, the image wants to go through 3 more prepasses after it just did 4 calculations before it'll begin to render. Why is this happening? Ismael
You probably have interpolated glossy on one or more materials. Ismael

jophus14
I'm using some glass that has interpolations, but they are standard Vray glass materials, nothing special. I also have some materials with a falloff as a reflect, but only at 10%-20%, nothing drastic
Christopher Nichols
The interpolation that is done on your material is done on the pre-pass. Reflection and refraction cannot be baked in so they have to be calculated no matter what on every frame. That is the bad news. The good news is that the pre-pass will only be used to calculate your glossy effect so the pre-pass will go a lot quicker then it normally does for the diffuse lighting, plus in the end, it will save you a lot of time off the final rendering. jophus14
Thanks for the explanation Christopher. The second set of prepasses are quite quick. I love the Interior/Exterior DVDs by the way.
