Ive recently becoming interesting in UV unwrap but im finding it difficult to find any decent documentation on it online. Ive found a couple of max ones but they go into so much detail that I cant help but think that at this stage 70% of it is irrelevant !

Does anyone know of any good tutorials/stuff that might be of some use?

this was the max link i was talking about :

http://waylon-art.com/uvw_tutorial/uvwtut_05.html

having reread it, it does in a roundabout way explain how to do it. But as the author fully admits, he goes into more detail than he needs to for the purposes of explanation. I am really looking for a simplified tutorial that is geared more at architectural modelling and texturing, rather than for games etc.

if i were unwrapping a box id do this...

1. add uv unwrap

2. click planar map

3. click edit

4. click Mapping

5. click Normal map dialog

6. select box mapping from the drop down list.

7. the box now appears as 6 sides flattened.

8. move the sides to where ever u like them, but keep inside the dark blue lines.

9. take a screen grab of the flattened box.

10. open photoshop and paste it in, and crop the image to the dark blue border.

11. apply your materials / colours / textures, etc to your map.

12. save and open it in your mat editor.

13. close the uv unwrap window

14. apply material to your box.

15. the material should be properly mapped on your box.

16. to adjust your mapping, select the box, and uv unwrap mod,

17. click edit

18. move the green boxes verts to fit perfectly.

hope this helps as a very brief intro to unwrap!! ;-)
